Good evening, everyone! 😊
As I’ve said before, college keeps me busy enough that it’s unfortunately hard to stay as active here, but I thought I’d share with you the start of my latest project. Up until now we’ve been doing weekly projects - tasters in different mediums such as oil paint, sculpture, printmaking, bookbinding, illustration and graphics (to name a few) but in the last three weeks before Christmas we’ve been given all this time to do pretty much whatever takes our fancy, including choosing the subject matter. We’re to start broadly by researching our subject, basically making loads of observational drawings. My chosen theme is record shops and records themselves, so I’ve been out everyday since Tuesday sitting on the streets and drawing the shopfronts in different ways, talking to the owners and taking photos inside. The reason I matched this photo with this post is because I’ve been wrapped up pretty similarly to David here - it’s been freezing out there! 😬😆 But definitely worth it, since starting college I’ve found that I really enjoy drawing on location, and find it so much easier to pick up details and proportions than from a photo. I’ve been finding out little interesting nuggets of info from the owners of record shops I’ve been going to for ages now, things I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for this project, so it’s proving valuable already!
I’m hoping to spend one last day drawing out on the streets tomorrow, and then spend some more time working indoors from photos of the shop interiors, and any photos people sent me of their collections here! Thank you for your support so far, it’s much appreciated!
Hope you’re all doing well. 😊
Sweet dreams, you sweet things. 💤✨💕
