In continuation of yesterday, I'd like to show you how it looks like when we go into the silencer with an A330. As soon as the two big doors are open and locked, the tow truck pushs the aircraft on it's dedicated position. This position varies depending on the aircraft size. After the tow truck left the hall, the doors are closed and the aircraft is quickly prepared for the test run.
During an engine test run, there must be at least two licensed aircraft engineers in the cockpit. However, on higher powered runs, mostly a third person is present to assist these two during those tense moments.
The ground crew consists at least of one member. During the engine start he has a direct interphone connection to the cockpit while standing near the nose landing gear. As soon as the engines are running stable and the cockpit crew is ready to accelerate, the ground engineer disconnects the interphone from the aircraft and goes into the small control room.
From there he can safely communicate to the cockpit crew and monitor the aircraft and its surrounding with cameras. 🔧 David
