#LonelyPlanet#travel writer, @raubontheroad, is currently on assignment exploring #Portugal. This shot features the roofless Capelas Imperfeitas (Unfinished Chapels) in Batalha. Only accessible from outside the abbey, the octagonal mausoleum with its seven chapels was commissioned in 1437. However, the later Manueline additions by the architect Mateus Fernandes overshadow everything else. Although Fernandes’ plan was never finished, the staggering ornamentation is all the more dramatic for being open to the sky. #LPinPortugal
'The skyline of Hong Kong, a popular gateway to mainland #China, never fails to amaze me. At Victoria Peak, the never-ending glowing lights against the mountains in the background are breathtaking, especially on a clear night when you can see for miles. The old funicular route to the top is a quick and easy way to access the viewing platforms which to me offers one of the best modern views in the world. – @danflyingsolo#BestinTravel -- That's all for this weekend's #lpinstatakeover! 'One of my favourite cities in China was #Suzhou, which is under 30 minutes from #Shanghai by bullet train. While the canals of the city have become popular with tourists to explore by boat, you can still find day-to-day life going on along the waterways which weave between houses, small shops and kids playing games at the water's edge.' – @danflyingsolo#lpinstatakeover#BestinTravel
'The city of Xi’an is a fascinating mix of history and cultures that blends old and new together as one. Once the eastern end of the Silk Road trading route, you can find Islamic food and culture thriving here amongst streets of snacks and wooden mosques. The bell tower pictured is found in most old cities, where the bells would be rung to announce the start of the day. A drum tower would always be nearby and would sound at dusk, to mark the end of the day.' – @danflyingsolo#lpinstatakeover#BestInTravel
'One of the most famous views of 21st-century #China is that of the #Shanghai skyline. On most of my daytime visits to The Bund (the historical waterfront area which offers some of the best views of the modern skyscrapers in the city) the view was clouded by fog. By night though, the glowing lights of the Pearl Tower with its unique shapes, and the staggering Shanghai Tower, which boasts the world's highest observation deck at 561.3 metres, both looked incredible.' – @danflyingsolo#lpinstatakeover#BestInTravel
This weekend's #lpinstatakeover comes from #LonelyPlanet Trailblazer @danflyingsolo, who will be sharing shots from his trip to #China, one of our top countries to visit in 2018! – 'I recently spent two weeks exploring China with @GAdventures and was really intrigued by how each city seemed to blend its traditions and history with the towering skyscrapers and fast-paced buzz that modern day China is known for. Travelling from #Beijing to #Shanghai and then onto Hong Kong by train is easy, and with some detours to smaller cities and the countryside, we really packed a lot in to 14 days!' – @danflyingsolo -- Stick around this weekend for more of Dan's epic China images! #BestInTravel
