After an entire night under star-filled sky, this was my last view before going to sleep. The first rays of sunrise on Mt Damavand, 10 years ago in the Alborz Mountain Range of Iran. At 5610 meters, it is the highest volcano in Asia, only 70km away from Tehran. It has been a legendary and sacred mountain in the ancient Persian culture.

Photo by @chien_chi_chang | I had always been fascinated with Myanmar (Burma) ever since I read George Orwell's Shooting an Elephant. I have made over ten trips to Myanmar in the past decade. Back then, the military junta was insular and xenophobic, and I had to assume that every move I made and every word I said was being watched or listened to by Big Brother’s ubiquitous informers.
It was unlike any land I had been to or knew about before. Every trip was challenging—sometimes menacing but always exciting, too. When I first photographed the Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, as she was released from house arrest, I switched taxis three times for a 10-minute ride, stopping by a movie theatre and a shopping mall to shake off potential tails so as to reach The Lady's party headquarters in one piece.
It had become a matter of time before she would come to power. I could smell an urgent hunger for, and sense of, freedom in the air. For the first time, it seemed that democracy and human rights would prevail in Myanmar. I had high hopes for the country and its people. #MagnumPhotos #cccontheroad

“A not-so-well known view from the Valley of Fire [that] takes some exploring to find [because] there isn’t a trail to it,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Rex Jones. “It’s one of the things I love about hiking and landscapes, there is always something new to see, to explore, to admire, and occasionally to capture.”

“The blue green tones in the center create the feeling of entering a new world, as if we are emerging through a portal into another realm. Nicely exposed and composed.” — @natgeo photographer Brian Skerry (@brianskerry)

Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPmotion
This weekend’s goal is to capture objects and scenes in motion, as in this photo by Elena Shevchuk (@elena_from_tver). Start with the movement. Consider the range of motions you can document that reflect different feelings or emotions, like the quiet and soothing way wind gently blows your friend’s hair, or the high-energy action of your sibling splashing in a pool.
Plan the capture. The way you document movement can bring another dimension to your #WHPmotion submission. For example, you could blur the action by tracking the motion of a bright car as it drives through a busy junction to create an abstract environment, or you could capture a cat midair as it jumps down from the furniture for a freeze-frame effect.

Play with creative tools. Slow motion or time-lapse can exaggerate the mood and movement in your submission, or multiple exposures can track multiple positions of someone moving through your frame.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPmotion hashtag only to photos and videos shared over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video shared over the weekend is eligible to be featured next week.

wallflower 💐⁣

around and around we go in one of my favorite buildings in Copenhagen - I posted a video from here on story the other day and a friend sent me a message saying that they built this 17th century church tower with a ramp to the top because the king was too fat to walk the stairs. Must be nice to be the king 👑 #myvikingstory @vikingcruises
