“14 years ago, I remember picking up my brothers from their last day of school. We had a plan to drive out to the country and look at puppies from a classified ad in the newspaper, specifically a black male Cocker Spaniel BUT things quickly changed when he spotted the tiny golden pup that quickly came up to play with us. I spent what little money I had as a poor college student and left with her. Our parents had no idea until they saw her sitting at the top of the stairs when they came home and they immediately fell in love. We named her Summer, because it was the first day of summer vacation... and she’s been a loyal family member ever since.
.
Yesterday, we said goodbye to Summer. She waited long enough for all three boys to come back home to send her off. You’ll always be our guard dog and part of the family. Thank you for blessing us with your companionship. Rest easy Summer girl ❤️❤️ May you feast on all the good food heaven has to offer.” writes @broken_dapper of @croig.co & @caferacersofinstagram // Rest In peace sweet Summer!

The technique behind Oakland, California-based artist Annie Wong’s (@headexplodie) stop-motion artwork is, at heart, basic: mold, shoot, repeat. But a strong aesthetic informs the process, too, lending Annie’s videos a sneaky emotional punch. “I’m really interested in emotional literacy,” she notes — and her work, from GIF stickers to longer pieces, brings that interest vividly to life.
Drawn to creative endeavors from a young age (“I was definitely known as the arty kid in grade school”), Annie studied photography and painting in college. What she loves about the stop-motion she’s doing now is that it combines many aspects of art making. “There’s painting, building with your hands, lighting, animation — which is like acting — and video editing, which is kind of like filmmaking. It’s where I’ve found my happy place, because I really like playing with all those sorts of materials.” Watch Annie’s “lighthearted interpretation of the cyclical nature of our emotions” on our story and on our IGTV channel. Photo by @jasperdoest | Flamingo Bob enjoys a swim in the #Caribbean Sea. Arthritis in his feet is causing him difficulties to walk but he feels very comfortable in the water. Yes, Flamingo's can swim! When the water is beyond their wading depth, flamingos swim at the surface while feeding. Webbed feet allow the flamingo to swim quite readily.

Bob is a Caribbean flamingo, from the Dutch island of #Curaçao. But as you might have already understood, he's not like any other flamingo. His life took a dramatic turn when he flew into a hotel window, leaving him severely concussed. He was cared for by my cousin, Odette Doest @vetdoest , a local vet who also runs a wildlife rehabilitation centre and conservation charity – the Fundashon Dier en Onderwijs Cariben (FDOC) @fdoccuracao. Existing disabilities meant Bob couldn’t be released, but instead he became ambassador for FDOC, which educates locals about the importance of protecting the island’s wildlife.
The story about Bob was recently published online @natgeo who are currently celebrating ‘the year of the bird’. #followme @jasperdoest for more images of Flamingo Bob who is slowly becoming #instafamous as the animal ambassador of Fundashon Dier en Onderwijs Cariben (FDOC). #wildliferescue #wildliferehab #wildliferehabilitation #wildlifeeducation #flamingo #flamingolove #prettyinpink #animalrescue #birdrescue #animalambassador #meetbob

[#WorldRhinoDay ] Rhino Silhouette | Photograph by Khai Chuin Sim
.
“I took an early ride out from the camp in Maasai Mara National Park, searching for the great migration, when I saw a rhino from far away, standing beside a tree,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Khai Chuin Sim. “The back light from the early sun was too strong, so I took a silhouette instead.”

“I love #YourShotPhotographer Stephanie Miller (@thescenicsuitcase)'s comment: ‘Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! This may be one of the best photos I've seen on [Your Shot]. The simple silhouette against the orange sky is fantastic, and I LOVE how the birds appear to be exploding out of the tree to fly towards the center of the frame. Wow. Well done!’” — @natgeoyourshot Producer David Y. Lee (@davidylee)

Photo by @bertiegregory // A pair of wandering albatross greet one another at their nest on Bird Island, South Georgia. This species reaches sexual maturity at around 10 years of age. After what has to be one of the most epic courtship displays in the animal kingdom, they pair up. They can then stay with their partner for the rest of their lives meaning this bond can last up to 50 years! We had the great honour of filming this spectacle with the British Antarctic Survey. This incredible organisation has been studying the wanderers on Bird Island for over six decades! Shot for a new @natgeo online series coming very soon. Behind the scenes photo by @spono.
