The older I grew in wrestling the more I realized that using the rules was the difference between a good match or going into business for myself. Applying the rules(either to my advantage or it being used against me) in a working fashion is what creates emotional response and crowd engagement that lasts through the years. In other words; the difference between a match that had cool action or a match that would be memorable and fundamentally solid through the years due to the emotional draw through physical actions and interactions created by the competitors with each-other and the audience. Without rules wrestling, in my opinion, misses it’s attachment. Wrestling needs everything, but it should be applied and painted through the rules that it is bound to and there in lies it’s art. Rules can be applied to your benefit in creating a great match, and as wrestlers our job lies in perfecting this process over and over. Picture credit to twitter user @greatbrianlast
