Photo by Aaron Huey @argonautphoto | Grand Gulch, in #BearsEarsNationalMonument, Utah. This winding canyon, cut through 60 miles of slick rock on Cedar Mesa, has been the home to the Ancestral Pueblo people (and the Archaic people who roamed the land before them) for thousands of years and still contains many of their homes, kivas, and granaries. Concentrations were especially high in the Basketmaker period starting in 500 BCE. To see the rock art left behind, and to hear interpretations of the stories they still tell today follow @argonautphoto.

#Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPmirrorimage
This weekend, the goal is to take photos and make videos that play with reflections and mirror the world around us, as in this image from Lennart Pagel (@lennart).
Look for reflections at different scales. Whether it’s a mountain peak reflected in the still waters of an epic landscape or a silhouette standing tall in a cafe window, mirror images can be seen and photographed in lots of different places. Keep your eyes peeled.
Think about the light and mood. A sun-drenched landscape captured in a rearview mirror fuels a very different feeling than a still portrait framed by a vintage full-length mirror.
Play with perspective. Bring mirrors into nature to explore optical illusions or capture a warped or distorted image, or use multiple mirrors and reflections to create your own “hall of mirrors,” a kaleidoscopic image with an infinity reflection.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPmirrorimage hashtag only to photos and videos shared over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. By adding the #WHPmirrorimage hashtag, you consent to and grant Instagram all rights to repost your photo or video. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video shared over the weekend with the #WHPmirrorimage hashtag is eligible for the project and, if selected, to be featured next week.

Blissful Morning | Photograph by Neelima Azad
.
“Early risers are awarded with great energy and opportunity. I was supposed to sleep like a log after traveling a great distance to this amazing resort in the desert. I decided to wake up early just so I could roam around and explore,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Neelima Zad. “I was in for a treat as the desert was covered in fog, and the lake close by had swans and this swan right here followed me wherever I moved. I set up my tripod and put it on timer, and ran and posed so I could forever cherish this morning.”

“I love #YourShotPhotographer Anoop Bhaskar (@colourbinge)’s comment: ‘A very much balanced image, I like the tones of colors from the left to the right when you see them diagonally. It’s like opening a box and seeing candies inside :) Love the composition and colour.” — @natgeoyourshot Producer David Y. Lee (@davidylee)

There’s something I really like about museums, especially OLD museums and the Natural History Museum in London was no exception 🐋⁣

What’s the best museum you’ve ever been to? Mine might be the Old Egyptian museum in Cairo...⁣

Photo by @FransLanting When ice gets compressed at the bottom of a glacier or ice field it becomes blue. The older the ice, the bluer it gets. By that measure the iceberg I encountered in Antarctica’s Weddell Sea one day was ancient ice that had calved off from the continent’s edge under the influence of global warming. It was the size of a cathedral, but without that gathering of chinstrap penguins on its flanks it would be hard to get a sense of its size. This image is part of a portfolio of my work that is now on display at London’s Natural History Museum today where I received the great honor last night of a Lifetime Achievement Award from @nhm_wpy, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Follow me @fransLanting and @ChristineEckstrom for more images and stories from a lifetime of chronicling our changing planet.
