A Mother’s Movement

This is very VULNERABLE for me!! I cringe just looking at my tummy rolls. But I know my body is so strong. And I share this for my child and all the mamas out there who are showing up 🙌🏾 Mom bod, breastfeeding, sharing my #boobtruth journey with lululemon and how my motherhood journey has empowered me to reclaim my worth and create @amothersmovement

A Mother’s Movement

Feeling luscious like the sunshine ✨🌿
.
My baby is 2.5 and chatting up a storm: “Mom! I’m a masterpiece!!”
.
Yes you are, baby. And so am I. Not so long ago I’d judge myself for saying such a thing. But just like my little one, I have learned to reconnect with my luscious brilliance ✨
.
If we are present, they can be our greatest teachers. I say that I’m a role model to my children, but really they are mine. 🙏🏾
.
What have your children taught you?? 🌈

THE BLACK MADONNA
.
I transform pain and suffering into a greater capacity to love.
.
The Black Madonna represents the power we all have to emerge from the darkness transformed, an earth goddesses worshipped for the miracle of fertility.
.
She represents a new awareness or consciousness toward the earth and our bodies. She represents the wisdom we can only accrue when we go through the often-painful fires of transformation. She helps us become conscious of the light in the dark, of the intersection of sexuality and spirituality.
.
Alchemy is the physical process of transforming metals into gold, which represents a spiritual process of burning away all obstacles to just be the soul.
.
The Black Madonna has been through the fires of loss and emerged with a greater capacity to love.
.
For millennia the body, the earth, all forms of matter have been devalued and misunderstood. The dark has been so vilified, yet all life emerges from the pitch-black womb. The darkness is potential; it’s the crucial and elemental stage we must all go through to create new or more life. The Black Madonna is the emblem of deep wisdom, the profound consciousness that is inherent in all things. All living and created things are energy. The body has wisdom. The earth has wisdom. And the pain we experience as humans contains deep wisdom.
.
When we are in the fires of suffering, it can be difficult to trust that gold is being forged. It can be hard to trust when we are in terrific pain that there is a process at work that will make us more authentic, more alive, and infinitely freer. It can be almost impossible to accept or notice the presence of the divine when we are at our most human.
.
The Black Madonna is the cauldron that holds us steadfastly as we endure the alchemy of integrating more soul into our existence. She is the promise that what doesn’t survive the fires of suffering was never meant for us. And she is the presence that is there with us even when we might feel the most alone, reminding us that there is no darkness we can enter without being met by love.

#abortionban // I’m so saddened, shocked and speechless. So I’ve compiled a few words & images from others.
.
The state senate of Alabama voted to pass legislation that would make abortion procedures illegal, including in instances of rape and incest. Those who perform an abortion could face up to 99 years in prison, while rapists (if even convicted) would only face up to 10.
.
This is terrifying. Disgusting. Heartbreaking.
.
In 2018, 300,000 women in the world died in childbirth. A large percentage of these women died because they did not have access to legal and safe abortions. This also disproportionally affects black women who are FOUR times more likely to die in childbirth. This IS an issue of life, but it's the issue of saving women's lives all around the world. Taking the choice and the autonomy away from women will literally kill them. Words by @kaitlyn.luckow
.
Abortions happen for many reasons. The parents may not be able to give the child the life they deserve financially or emotionally and would be at a great disadvantage. The person would be disowned and shamed by their family and in some countries murdered #honourkilling (common in South Asian cultures where I come from). The child may have a devastating health defect causing a lifetime of pain and suffering. Carrying the pregnancy to term would put the person carrying the baby at risk of DYING. The pregnancy was a result of rape or incest - against someone’s will. Whatever the reason, it’s NOBODY’S BUSINESS. People should ALWAYS have the right to choose what happens to their bodies. Also not all people with uteruses look like women. Trans lives matter too. See @thomaspagemcbee 🌈
.
From @onourmoon: Also for the men who are trying to control women’s bodies, let this sink in: child support for 18 yrs for a 1 night stand.

A Mother’s Movement

The original intent of Mother’s Day was a call to action. To end all wars so that mothers wouldn’t have to send their sons off to kill other sons. To return to the stand of a mother: peace, forgiveness, nurture, healing, love, togetherness. This is the heart of @amothersmovement
.
Perhaps our wars are with our own mothers, with the gender pay gap, with the patriarchy, with our partners, with the medical system, with Wall Street, with climate crisis, with the mental load, with loss, with ourselves.
.
Today I ask we put these wars to rest.
Be soft.
Return to love.
.
To all the mamas:
Mothers of children
Mothers of others
Mothers who’ve lost 🌈
Mothers of communities
Mothers of animals
Mothers who adopt, foster
Mothers who struggle to conceive
Step mothers
Single mothers
Trans mothers
Coloured mothers
Indigenous mothers
Caregivers
Children who mother
.
This day is for you. #Mothersday

A Mother’s Movement

Mothers can be the tipping point. Because we are the inception of all of life. When we heal ourselves, we interrupt the ancestral pain and programming that led us to the world as it is today. We break the chains and forge a new future. When mothers are revered for their sacred gift of creating and nurturing life, we reclaim the reverence for the original mother: Mother Earth 🌍.

A Mother’s Movement

#BIRTHOFAMOTHER // Words by @sheleanaaiyana of @risingwoman
.
Some of us are not born into it
We must be pushed into our wildness
By a wounded man
Or a broken heart
A lost dream
(A child)

And when it happens
We die, but awaken
All at once, we are born again
Into something wilder, more free
Never again to be tied to someone, or someplace
Only our souls to call home

So we run barefoot in the woods
We build our own fires, and from time to time
Share warm nights with another warm soul
For brief moments, we surrender into the comforts of another
And just as soon, we ask to be released

Some of us are not born into our wildness
We grow into it
Through pain, through attachment
And the eventual recognition that nothing is
Nothing will ever be the same

And so our wildness is what carries us
Back to ourselves
Wild women with stories to tell
Fires in our hearts
Infinitely free

Gender wage gap goes up to 60% when womxn have children. #equalpayday Swipe right 👉🏽
.
I cried reading this. Because I am living it. I am in the motherhood gap. RIGHT NOW. Career or mothering. Either or. There aren't many options in between. I knew that my male-dominated corporate job would not be conducive for the life I wanted so I could actually be present and raise my children. But my soul told me I've been born many lifetimes to create A Mother's Movement.
.
✖️Men earn on average 20% more than womxn
✖️After Womxn have their first child, Men can earn up to 60% more, even if they are parents too
✖️The gender wage gap is mostly a penalty for bearing children
✖️If paid, stay-at-home moms/ parents would earn $200K / yr for the 90+ hrs of weekly parenting work they do
✖️#mombrain, the essence of motherhood (nurturing, empathy, listening, connected, intuition) is what is most needed in boardrooms, homes, relationships, forests, oceans
✖️When parents take parental leave and return to work, they become better leaders because of their MOTHERING skills, contributing to 15-21% more profits in diverse and gender equitable organizations
.
My vision for the future is that A Mother's Movement is the demonstration of a Matriarchal business, lead by our hearts and intuition, collaboration over competition, more than full time pay with part time flexible hours, so we can truly raise our children- the future of humanity.
.
If you feel this is important work, help pave the way, join A Mother's Movement. Monthly memberships start at $19 / mo, with partial scholarships available. Your support puts food on my table, gas in my car, and life going. LINK IN BIO

A Mother’s Movement

Gathering womxn is healing. I never truly understood this until I realized how isolating motherhood can be and how important it was for me to be amongst others who understood my world.
.
In our already overloaded, overwhelmed, overstretched lives, mothers suffer the most. Doing the job of the 7 person village, text messages, social media, emails, birthday parties, activities, dinner, groceries... we were never meant to have this much on our plates.
.
This past weekend we actually stopped the busy, connected with ourselves and each other, and got to be seen, heard and held.
.
@the.holistic.psychologist shares the same notion: Our kids grow up learning how to nurture themselves only if we nurture OURSELVES. #actionsspeaklouderthanwords
.
In gathering we created intimate connection, the kind that makes your heart and soul sing, the kind that heals wounds and allows what needs to be released release. We connected with mothering the mother.
.
The big picture is becoming so clear. When I heal myself, when I return to love, when I thrive, my children thrive. When I interrupt the self-destructive habits, the heartache, the victim, the control, the survival and step into what brings my soul alive, I alter not only my future but the future of my family, my community, and my planet.
.
How can you mother yourself ? If you are looking for a space to process, grow, be seen & heard, check out our Empowered Mothers Program (link in bio)

A Mother’s Movement

Some days I just want to quit life. Quit being a mom, quit building a business, quit cleaning up messes. Crawl into a hole and close my eyes forever.
.
But then my soul whispers to me: I am a wisdom keeper, my hardship is meant to grow me, my postpartum journey has given me purpose, I am radiant abundance and magnificence. If I can birth a baby, then I can do anything. 💪🏽
.
Many of you tell me that I’m doing important work. Thank you. I have hard days too. And your words keep me going to keep showing up for myself, my family and all of you. ✨
.
This Saturday we are gathering. Showing up for ourselves and each other. Celebrating and honouring motherhood. Interrupting cycles and patterns that dim our light, so we can forge a new future for ourselves and our children. If you feel this work is important, do the work. Show up for yourself. When you thrive, your children thrive, and everyone around you. 🌿

A Mother’s Movement

Being connected is at the core of our being.🌿
.
Notice that every cell in our body can only thrive because it is connected to another. A heart is only a heart because of the sum of its parts. And it beats and beams thanks to the tissues, organs, and energy that surrounds it. It is the power of the collective.
.
When a cell goes off on its own, it becomes a free radical... cancer. We depend on and thrive off connection.
.
In our modern day, Motherhood can often feel lonely. Isolated, many of us are doing the work of a village, on our own.
Do you feel motherhood can be isolating?
.
CREATE COMMUNITY & COME GATHER

.
Gathering in Community heals
✨ Releases oxytocin (love) hormone
✨ Resets nervous system
✨ Allows you to be heard and seen

A Mother’s Movement

#Christchurchshooting Sometimes I don’t post about world events because my heart just hurts too much. I see, I witness, I grieve, I cry. #49lives lost at the hands and gun of a man who felt another deserved to die because of their faith 🕌
.
This act of hate can only manifest due to ones own self-hate. I say, a mother is the first world of a child, critical in creating the foundations of love and safety. I wonder how this person, who committed such an atrocity, was missing love or nurture. Perhaps if he felt loved, heard, held and safe, especially in his first few years of life, this may not have happened. But we can end this. Our world can either pass on hate and hurt generation to generation, or our world can break the chains, heal, and return to the only truth, love. ⭐️
.
That is why I truly believe mothers, the portal of life, can be the healing the planet needs. When we break our own chains of hurt and pain, provide the love & nurturing we may or may not have experienced growing up, we forge a new future for ourselves and our children. THIS IS THE WORK. 🔥
.
And it can feel daunting because there is so much hurt and pain that has led us astray from our infinite, abundant, miraculous, selves rooted in love and only love. Through the hurt, we’ve forgotten how to love ourselves 🙏🏽
.
But the portal of motherhood reminds us of the deepest love possible. It opens the flood gates on what yearns to be healed so we can pave the way for a day where people are heard, seen, held and safe. And hurt can be an incredible catalyst to band together and stand for healing. And it all starts with healing and nurturing ourselves 🌿
.
This Saturday we are DOING THE WORK. If you are taking a stand to break the chains, return to love, and forge a new future, this invitation is personally for you. You can listen to this as a sales pitch, or you can listen to this as THE necessary work we all can contribute to in order to live in a loving and kind planet 🌎 .
Come gather: Saturday March 23, 2-4:30 pm @werklab Vancouver. Thank you for your bravery and willingness to do the work. Link in bio. 👸🏻👸🏾👸🏿👸🏼

A Mother’s Movement

A Mother is a child's first world. Their safety net. Their sanctuary. It is upon our shoulders, our backs, our wombs, our hearts that we bear the honour and magnitude of motherhood. 🌿
.
But in our busy and full lives, how often do we stop to actually acknowledge all that we do and who we are every day (and night)? In order for the planet to recognize the immeasurable contribution mothers are, we first have to acknowledge that within ourselves. ✨
.
This is how we close the gender gap. 👊🏽
.
"We have a great responsibility. How we treat ourselves is how our children will grow up to treat themselves".
.
Come gather in celebration of mothers, for International Women's Day: this Saturday March 23rd, 2-4:30 pm @werklab Vancouver.

COME HANG! I’ll be hosting a free gathering at @mamamondays this Monday Feb 25th 1:30 pm at 📍@thejuicetruck (W 5th & Ontario, Vancouver).
.
Motherhood is all the Feels. It takes the deepest love, the greatest commitment, the most resilience, and a lot of letting go. I found motherhood to be really lonely. I went to mommy-baby classes hoping to connect with other moms, but with classes that mostly focus on baby, there wasn’t a safe space for mamas to share real talk and focus on themselves. This Monday we will be exploring the raw experiences, joys and challenges of motherhood that unite us in this wild and wonderful journey. Just like babies, us humans crave connection. Having a safe space to share your story is why Community is so powerfully healing and uplifting. Come ready for meaningful connection, conversation and JUICE 🥤
.
Bring your babe (or toddler!). Diapers, poops, bottles, boobies, meltdowns (baby or mommy) ALL THINGS WELCOME.

A Mother’s Movement

“Our modern day society leads women to believe that they can, or should, regain their pre-pregnancy body immediately after their baby is born. We live in a time where ’Wow, you don’t even look like you’ve just had a baby!’ is considered to be among the highest compliment someone can give a new mother. Creating life and giving birth is a tremendous accomplishment, and it’s tragic that our society encourages women to erase all signs of this accomplishment from their bodies as quickly as possible. One of my favorite things to remind women in the postpartum period is, ‘You may be nowhere near where you were, but you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.’” - words by @ohbabynutrition
.
I actually noticed that I deleted all postpartum photos where I “looked fat”. I don’t even have a single photo of my postpartum jelly belly because, especially in my sensitive teen years, I’ve grown up in a society that body shames and hides the jiggles, the squish, the rolls, the flab.
.
Now knowing what I now know, I wish I took more real photos. I wish I celebrated and honoured my body for what it did and how it transformed. And I hope I can shed my disgust for the soft and squishy pouch i carry that GREW a tiny human. I hope that when our children grow to Childbearing years, they have had a new narrative that allows them to embrace and revere the markings, the growing pains, the immense miracle the body is as a vessel to birth life. But the only way for them to live in a new world is when WE first shed what no longer serves us. ✨
.
I owe my belly & body an apology as I release unrealistic standards of beauty SET BY MEDIA THAT PROFITS FROM INSECURITY. I honour my body where it’s at today, in every way it is and isn’t. I don’t bounce back. I bounce forward.
.
What are you releasing and honouring ? 💕

Our bodies tell our story. Our stories of pain, joy, love, loss. A tale of challenge and strength, wisdom and beauty.
.
No matter your story, could you honour it? No matter another’s story could you honour theirs? When we share and honour all our stories, rather than compare or judge, we are stronger together. THAT is solidarity- bonded by our journey of motherhood.

@dr.rosalesmeza shares:
.
Motherhood is not a burden. Motherhood doesn't take away our strengths, that is the patriarchy & colonialism talking.
.
Motherhood expands our strengths and gives rise to even greater ones. Motherhood is a call to love, grow, & nurture beyond what you thought was possible. It's an invitation to co-create. It's a call to be a warrior of love. It is a call to liberate and raise free people.
.
You thought your life was over? No, it is just beginning. Motherhood forces you to make room for what matters, to carry out your higher purpose. Motherhood allows you to play, in a world that just wants work.
.
Motherhood is teaching & learning. Leading & following. Giving peace, making peace, & wishing for peace.
.
Mother is a noun and a verb. It is Femme, Black, Brown, Indigenous, Queer, Trans, dis-able bodied, & childless.
.
To mother is to be more tired than you ever knew, but stronger than you ever imagined, and more full of love than you can even comprehend.
.
Motherhood is a rebirth, a transformation, an invitation to radical love. It is learning to be fierce and gentle at the same time. It is a call to nurture, embolden, and organize.
.
I'm here for the revolution, are you? In solidarity & in radical love, Dr. Rosales Meza

A Mother’s Movement

This song kept coming on the radio. It felt so charged and powerful. Reading the lyrics so clearly represented motherhood for me. A birth, a death, and a complete rebirth of who you are- like an inner storm with so much turmoil yet so much beauty and strength.

How has motherhood been for you?

Can you name the tune?
⚡️⚡️⚡️
“Lightning crashes a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door
.
Lightning crashes an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
The angel closes her eyes
The confusion that was hers
Belongs now to the baby down the hall
.
Oh now feel it, comin' back again
Like a rollin', thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from
The center of the earth again
I can feel it.
.
Lightning crashes a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
The angel opens her eyes
Pale blue colored iris
Presents the circle
And puts the glory out to hide, hide”

Thank you @talentlabyvr for inviting me to share my voice. I spoke to 300 people who have the ability to influence and impact how organizations show up in the world.

Today more than ever are organizations called to take an environmental stand, a humanitarian stand, and even a political stand. The pathway to a thriving planet first starts from within. When we heal ourselves, we heal the planet- empowered individuals then become an empowered collective.

Mothers are the first world of a child. And when mothers heal, they get to be the interruption of generational trauma, cutting the ties and restoring the lineage of love. That is why I created @amothersmovement

We have 12 years to drastically alter the trajectory of the greatest mass extinction the planet has ever experienced. Now is the time to rise up and step into your greatness. We are all in this together. And my oh my does your greatness shine brightly. ✨

A Mother’s Movement

Presence 💆🏻‍♀️ over presents. 🎁. Today I could not be more grateful for my family, my partner, my parents, my support system, this community, my inner strength, my courage, my hardships, my triumphs.... This movement allowed me to rise up above my struggles, embrace the journey and become more potent than I’ve ever been before.

Ask Santa for the gift of Maternal Power, Presence & Joy. Empowered Mothers Program starts Jan 2019 starting at $19/mo. If you can afford more, contributions go to a low income or single mom fund. Scholarships available - email info@amothersmovement.com

A Mother’s Movement

SLOW DOWN + GROUND // The to-do list can seem endless. And it can feel like we’re never “getting enough done”. But when we live in village-less villages, with the average mother logging 90 hrs a week of motherhood duties (equivalent to 2.5 full time jobs), it’s no wonder we are feeling overwhelmed.

But if we slow down. Take a step back. In the grand scheme of things, what really matters most? What can we let go of? And how can we draw the line and know that we’ve done enough and that we ARE enough. Perhaps the whole world needs to slow down, feel the warmth of the sun on their face, breathe the crisp morning air, adventure in the wild.

Over the next week, we will be unplugging off the grid in the back country of Australia. No wifi, no reception. Salty adventures, bare feet and sand, family & food, rest & cuddles. Grounding into the original Mother, Earth.
