Carol Channing was one of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ earliest and longest champions. We joyfully celebrated her 90th birthday with a dazzling opening number tribute at the 22nd Annual Gypsy of the Year Competition in 2010 at the New Amsterdam Theatre where the audience roared with its affection for her. She gleefully signed autographs at the first celebrity table of the Broadway Flea Market. She allowed us to create the first "Broadway Bear" in her Hello, Dolly! likeness that became the genesis of a wildly successful 15-year auction event. She signed thousands of Hello, Dolly! posters and Playbills as she made appeals from the stage of the Lunt Fontanne Theatre on Broadway and countless more on the road.
Carol was always in our corner, one of our most beloved and best friends. She will always have a special, cherished spot in the heart of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Forever.
We’re so excited to bring our Pop-up #BroadwayFlea to @bwaycon this weekend. Stop by our booth in the Marketplace to get special memorabilia from your favorite #Broadway shows. We may even have some special guest stars. #BroadwayCon
When talking with @bcefa supporter Jim Heslin about how powerful it is when a community comes together to help each other, he compared it to something he’s seen in Key West. He calls it “hurricane mentality,” that understanding that at any given time you may be giving help to or needing help from a neighbor.
Jim, in true Key West spirit, is providing his version of shelter from the storm as he matches your donations to Broadway Cares - dollar for dollar - up to $125,000. He’s challenging you to stand with him and donate today. Click on the link in our bio.
