It took me a very long time to get comfortable in my own skin, am still not a there a 100% because I have days when I just want to stay hidden and not go out cause of my pimples! But of late, I don’t stress about my looks but pay much more attention to how I feel. My body automatically responds and looks it’s best when I feel good.
In a world where there are much bigger troubles and problems I know this is the smallest, most vain thing to talk about but can we just take a second and acknowledge how many of us are driven by it? how much we approve or disapprove of others and ourselves based on this one thing?
It’s easy to put up a post and say ‘be confident’ ‘be yourself’ ‘happy in my skin’ or even things like ‘it doesn’t matter’
So am not going to do that. Instead I’ll tell you this, it is important! Because your face, your skin is a reflection of your mental and emotional state! Keeping ONLY that in mind, take care of yourself. Your happiness shouldn’t depend on your appearance but your appearance does depend on your happiness.
So choose today to accept yourself and love yourself. You will grow into happiness and beauty!
Affirmation: I am beautiful inside and out!
HOT TOPIC: FLAT STOMACH
Read this if you want one!
The question I get asked most often, the thing that drives people to take up all kinds of diets, the thing that people want most desperately but do least about, the question that I will keep answering as honestly as possible even if some of you feel bad!
1. Eating right and working out regularly (correctly) is key! That is followed by life style changes such as enough rest as your muscle recovery and hence definition is greatly affected by that! More than has of you seem to get stuck here given. Stop saying you are a foodie and can’t eat less or not eat junk! Stop saying you wanna know how which exercise to do and then NOT DO IT regularly!
2. All bodies are different and your body type, genetics, frame etc sometimes is the very reason why no matter what you do you can’t get that so called ‘Flat Stomach’
But here’s the thing! Instead of wanting a conventional/model/movie star like stomach why not want and work towards a toned and sexy one? That way whatever your body naturally is capable of becomes more acceptable and isn’t such a source of disillusionment to you post all your efforts!
3. If you are indeed serious about toning concentrate on your core strength development. Luckily it’s the muscle that get most easily activated as it’s your center and all kinds of movements eventually help define it.
I CHOOSE HEALTHY: DIY Protein bites
While I was dancing and a few years after that I got hooked on to protein bars and I think over a period of time my body started rejecting them and reacting badly soon enough! So one day i randomly made my own protein bar.
For the longest time I have consumed my salads and certain veggies raw. They had absolutely no side effects but in-spite of eating clean and healthy I wasn’t really gaining weight which was a terrible thing given the amount of physical activity I was always going
Steamed Food Bowls:
An Ayurvedic doc told me my body constitution needs warm and cooked food to absorb the needed nutrition. I was also told not to mix my salads with regular food. So I came up with my own hack give my time restrictions between classes and work. I basically make steamed food bowls now. I love layering my food and it kinda fit perfectly in with this hack. I now steam my salads and chosen raw veggies for upto 2 mins and top up my fav organic rice/ quinoa/ Dalia with some form of proteins and add the steamed veggies in. This has actually increased my satiation levels and I have gained and entire 1kg in the past month. That’s a big deal for me personally!
I CHOOSE HEALTHY: Coconut Milk
Over the past 8 months I have made some significant changes in my dietary choices that have benefited me immensely. It is only because I have seen such positive changes in my body that I am even sharing these with all of you!
This is perhaps my favourite morning ritual. I love making coconut milk every other morning for myself. Of all the possible milk substitutes that I have tried, this one is most flavourful, affordable and easy to make. My body also seems to accept it way more than any other. While I am not lactose intolerant, giving up milk was a decision I made because of the hormonal effects it had. My acne did pretty much clearly out in the very first month of giving up milk and the my pre+during period bloating stopped too (I don’t bloat otherwise)
All I’d say is, it’s a habit worth inculcating for it has big positives in the long run!
This is the boring part,
Doesn’t make for a beautiful picture,
It’s slow and maybe you’d be better off doing something more complex instead of wasting your time doing stretches!
Aasana: Eka Pada Adho Mukha Savāsana
Opens up the hips, stretches out the hamstring, strengthens and tone the legs, arms, shoulders. Lengthens out the torso, helps develop greater senses of balance because it’s a movement that works against gravity. Rests the brain.
(Emotionally quiets the mind, helps boost confidence with a sense of balance)
Should be practiced under strict supervision by people with heart conditions, weak wrists/injuries. People with high BP should do the variation instead.
Root chakra (muladhara)
Solar plexus chakra (manipura)
Third eye chakra (ajna)
State of Yoga
The most complex asana in all my practice. It’s taken me years to get myself to this point! It takes up my entire day, everyday to practice this aasana- Smile.
An un-inhibited, real smile that stems from genuine joy and peace is the only aasana all of us really want to perfect at the end of the day. There will be moments when you achieve it but the work doesn’t end there. This is the reason why so many of us turn to Yoga often times. But remember ‘Smiles’ and ‘Smile’ are very different. Some are most misleading. It’s like the base distinction between a pose and an aasana. This is where words fail to explain what you learn in silence while practicing yoga. Here’s my attempt at an explanation:
A pose is a static state of form while and an aasana is a dynamic state of being. A smile isn’t a thing you flash/ an expression on your face...it is your very moment of existence that expands cross and beyond time. It’s peace, tranquility, clarity & balance.
I hope you find the time to practice this aasana everyday!
