John 2:17. Passion. It is something that we are all familiar with and is something that we can have for many things in our lives. Many people are passionate about their careers, their significant others, their hobbies, their favorite sports teams, and many other favorite things in their lives. Passion means that we are excited and full of energy. That we love something so much that it consumes us because it is all we think about. We are all passionate about something, but how many of us are genuinely passionate about serving God and being in His presence? How excited are we to serve God and how much do we love being in His presence. God should be the most important thing in our lives, and we should always be on fire and excited to fulfill His will for us. Not only should we have passion for God, but we should be consumed by our love for Him. Our passion for God should outweigh our passion for anything that is worldly because when we become too passionate about worldly things, they become idols. It is good to be passionate about a variety of things, but God should always be the priority for our passion. Being passionate for God means we love Him very much and always want to be in His presence. Whenever we are passionate a about something, it is usually all we can talk about, but how often are we that excited about talking about Jesus? Are you consumed with passion for God, or do you lack an excitement and energy for serving God? Are you just going through the motions, or do you really feel on fire for God? Be consumed with a passion to love God and share Him with everyone. Make serving God the biggest passion in your life.
2 Samuel 22:22. With so many people in today's world turning away from God in favor of doing evil and sin, how many of us can honestly say that we are keeping the ways of God? How many of us can say that we have not turned our backs on God and left Him to follow evil? Instead of embracing sin and evil like the world wants us to do, we must stay focused on God and not deviate from what He wants us to do and from His commands. Keeping the way of the Lord means that we maintain complete obedience to whatever God commands. It means that we follow Gods will instead of our own. It means that we love others, are generous and kind, and do everything that is good and not evil. It means that we cling to our faith and resist sin no matter how harmless and tempting it may seem. It means that we serve God with everything we have and take advantage of every opportunity to spread the gospel. It means that we repent of our sins and resist all of the sins that are clearly stated in the Bible. The world is constantly trying to draw us into sin and away from God by making evil look as enjoyable and tempting as possible. Many people choose to abandon God as they pursue their own sinful nature's desires which always lead to sin. As Christians, we should all desire to keep the ways of God instead of following the world. We cannot keep Gods ways and pursue our own desires at the same time, so we must choose one. What decision will you make? Do you keep the ways of God in your life or do you abandon Him by following the evil sins of the world? What do you need to change in your life in order to better keep God's ways?
Psalms 18:28. Darkness is something that many Christians experience and struggle with sometimes. Darkness can come from depression, from confusion and indecision, from traumatic events, from financial, relationship, or health problems, or from facing and struggling with adversity and fears in our lives. Whenever we are experiencing dark times in our lives, they can feel like they last forever and there is no way out. We may feel hopeless and helpless during the dark times. If we are going through dark times, we must remember that there is always comfort, peace, and light in God. While we may face dark times sometimes, we do not have to stay in the darkness because our God has the ability and power to light up our darkness when we seek Him and embrace His presence in our lives. No matter how far into the darkness we have fallen or how low we are, God can always reach us and help us out of the darkness. Light always shines through darkness, and God can always shine through our darkness. It is during the dark times that we are best able to see and feel God's presence working in our lives. We need to accept God and allow His light to reach us and remove the darkness. No matter what you are struggling with or going through, God is greater and is bright enough to remove any darkness. Nothing or no one is dark enough that God cannot shine through and help. Just as darkness can never overpower light, no darkness can keep God from shining on our lives. Are you experiencing darkness in your life right now and need God to light up your life? Let God light up your darkness and brighten your life.
James 2:24. Whenever we accept Jesus as our Savior and put our faith in Him alone, we become right with God through Jesus's sacrifice. Many Christians make the mistake of believing that they can behave however they want to because their faith in Jesus will ensure their salvation no matter how they act. Faith is not the only component of being right with God though. We can believe in Him, but if we continue living in sin and do whatever we want, we are not right with God. What we do matters to God, and we must obediently follow God and shape our behavior and actions to match what He commands of us. Faith is worthless if it does not change us from following the world to following Christ because real faith leads to change in our lives as the Holy Spirit makes us more and more like Christ. If we are living in sin and committing the same sins over and over with no remorse or repentance, do we really have true faith? In order to be right with God, we must have faith as well as good Godly behavior, actions, and deeds that are pleasing to Him. Pay close attention to your actions and make sure they reflect your faith in God. Ask God to expose and help you fix any behaviors in your life that are not pleasing to Him. Stop believing that faith alone will make you right with God so you can act any way you want because our actions reflect our faith and relationship with Him. We cannot act ungodly without facing the consequences because faith is not a get out of jail free card. We must have both faith and do the right things to be right with God because doing only one causes us to fall short.
Proverbs 2:6. Everyone needs wisdom. No matter how smart we are or how much experience we have, there is always something new that we can and need to learn. We should always be gaining wisdom because there is no way that we can know everything, so we need to be trying to gain as much wisdom as possible. The best source of wisdom comes from God. Wisdom is so important for us to have that God willingly grants it to those who ask, seek, and believe. God is the only true source of knowledge and wisdom because He is the only one who knows everything there is to know. We know that God grants wisdom to those who ask for it and believe in Him, but how does God grant wisdom? He grants it through His Word, the Bible, which contains everything we need to know. As we read our Bibles, God speaks to us through the words we read. We can often find the solutions to our problems and some very sound advice in the Bible if we are constantly reading it. God also grants wisdom through our prayers. When we pray to God, He will often speak to us if we will listen quietly. The Holy Spirit living inside of us also provides us with wisdom from God. Another way God grants wisdom is through our life experiences. Finally, God grants wisdom through other Christians who mentor us or give us sound Biblical advice when we need help. God is always willing to grant us wisdom, especially when we are confused and unsure of what to do, where to go, or which decision to make. If you are struggling with making a decision or need help figuring out what to do, seek wisdom in God. Pray for His guidance and direction which will provide you with the wisdom you need.
Psalms 4:1. We have all been there. That place where we feel that we cannot take anymore and when we feel hopeless and depressed because of the challenges and struggles we have to face and handle on a daily basis. That place where we realize that only a miracle from God can save us. How we respond to these times reflect who we are and determines what we will do and become. Human nature tells us to try to fix our troubles ourselves and then become hopeless and quit whenever we inevitably fail to handle our problems on our own. Trying to fix our problems on our own without God is exhausting and never ends with success. Instead of doing what human nature and the world tells us to do, we need to follow this verse when we have trouble. Often, God is the only one who can fix our troubles and save us so we need to turn to Him instead of relying on our ourselves. The first thing we need to do is pray to God. Ask Him to hear and answer your prayers and fix your problems. Pour out your heart to Him and ask Him to deliver you and save you from the trouble you are facing. Have faith and trust in God to help you get through whatever you are going through by working miracles in your life. Pray for God to have mercy on you and pray for His will to be done in your life. With God, anything is possible and He can save us from any trouble no matter how bad things same. Never give up, but turn to God in prayer and seek His help and deliverance.
Matthew 25:40. Often in life, we do things for other people and then wonder why we go through the trouble of trying to help them. Maybe they are not appreciative of what we do or seem to expect it instead of being grateful. Maybe we are trying to do things for people that are not willing to put forth effort to help us whenever we may need help or are unable to do anything to help us. Whenever we have people that fit one or both of these descriptions, it can be difficult to want to help them, and we often ask ourselves why we should help them when they are either ungrateful or cannot help us with anything in return. The main reason why we should always try to help everyone when we are able is because it shows that we love others and are showing God's love to them. For some of us, maybe this reason is not good enough. We may need more motivation for us to help difficult people, so this verse gives us that motivation. Help others with the mindset that you are doing it for God. It does not matter if the person is ungrateful or cannot return the favor because we did not do it for them. Instead, we help others because it brings God glory and helps Him. Everything that we do for God's people, we are also doing for Him. The more we do for others, especially those who are less fortunate and need help badly, the more we are doing for God and the more glory He will have. Change your mindset about helping and doing things for others from doing it for them or for yourself to doing it for God. Serve God by helping and doing things for others with a servant's heart and without expecting anything in return.
2 Samuel 22:21. If we believe in God, obey and follow His commands, and maintain our innocence, does that mean that we will always be rewarded immediately and everything will always go well? Anyone who has any experience with life knows the answer to this question is no. Bad things happen to good people, and even though we follow God, we will still have rough times where we struggle against adversity. It is one thing when we sin and suffer from doing things we should not do, but what about when we do everything the right way, but things still go wrong? Whenever we suffer for going the right thing or when we have done nothing wrong, it can become easy to question God and doubt Him as we wonder why He lets us struggle when we are innocent. If anyone is suffering or struggling even though he or she is doing right, everyone can find comfort in the two promises found in this verse. First, God will reward our obedience in doing what is right. Our reward may not always be immediate and we may not even receive our reward until we get to Heaven, but God does not let any good thing go unnoticed and will reward us for doing right. Even though we may be suffering or struggling for doing right now, our reward that is coming will be greater than any pain we go through now. Second, God will restore us if we are innocent no matter how much we are struggling. It does not matter how much we are struggling or how low we sink, God will restore us if we are innocent. If we have done nothing wrong yet still suffer and struggle, we can take comfort in knowing that God will make things right one day and restore us. If you are struggling for doing right despite your innocence, have faith that God will reward and restore you.
Acts 16:31. All of us should desire to be saved and receive the eternal life that comes with the salvation of our souls. While everyone agrees that salvation is important, many people are misinformed or hold false beliefs in how we are saved. Many Christians believe that their salvation is somehow related to their good deeds. This belief adopts the idea that our salvation can be earned by doing good deeds. Many Christians also belief that salvation comes from being a good person or from coming to church every Sunday. We must understand that our salvation does not come from anything we do or do not do. It does not come from our works and cannot be earned. Salvation is given to us through the blood of Christ when we believe in Him. What do we need to believe? That we are sinners who fall short and need the grace of God. That God sent His only Son to die on the cross and pay for our sins. That Jesus was resurrected and later ascended into Heaven. That Jesus is the one and only way to salvation. Any other path to salvation leads to a dead end because Christ is the only way. Good works do not produce salvation because they are the results of and demonstration of the faith and belief we have in Jesus. Salvation is given to us so that we may believe in Jesus and receive His grace and forgiveness. Believe in Jesus today and every day so that you will obediently follow Him and receive your salvation that He made the ultimate sacrifice to give you. Jesus is the only way to salvation so believe in Him and only Him.
John 12:35. It is very hard to see anything in the pitch black dark but many people in this world are living in darkness. Some people think they are doing well and are fine, but they are really in darkness and wandering through life not really knowing where they are going or why they are here. On the other hand, many of us are struggling and are very aware that we are surrounding by darkness and need light to guide our way. Without Jesus, we will always be in darkness because He is the only light that can penetrate the darkness of the world and our sins. Without Jesus, our path in life is covered with darkness, and we cannot see where we are going. If we are living in the darkness of sin, we do not recognize our need for Jesus nor are we aware that we are heading to living in hell for eternity once we die. We need the light to help us find our way, and Jesus is the only light we need. God convicts us of our sins and calls us out of the darkness and toward the light (Jesus). Once we see the light and understand our need for Jesus, we are able to see where we are going and follow God's guidance in the right direction toward eternity in Heaven with God. If we have Jesus, we have a purpose and His light shines on us and makes us aware that we have a purpose in this life. With Jesus in our hearts, we should no longer live in the darkness of sin because light and darkness cannot exist together because light penetrates darkness. Are you still living in darkness? Do you know where you are going or are you still wandering around in the darkness? Jesus is the light of the world. Have faith and believe in Him so His light will overcome the darkness in your life.
Isaiah 2:11. Many of us have been guilty of letting our pride get out of hand, and many of us have allowed our success and achievements to make us more arrogant than we should. Having pride in who we are as people, what we stand for, and what we believe is a good type of pride that can perfectly coexist with humility which is what God wants from us. Pride that leads us to feel superior to others or to become arrogant and selfish puts us in danger and cannot coexist with humility. We cannot be arrogant and humble at the same time. God wants us to be humble because excessive pride and arrogance makes us believe that we do not need God and that we can make it fine on our own. Feeling this way is dangerous for us because the Bible warns that human pride will be brought down and human arrogance will be humbled. God hates excessive pride and arrogance, and He will humble us Himself if we refuse to humble ourselves in obedience to Him. God always wins and always comes out on top. We are nothing without Him so we should not be too prideful or arrogant. We should be humble and thankful for everything that God gives us. Rid your life of any selfish pride because God will always crush human arrogance.
Psalms 85:8. Listening to God is something that we all need to do continuously in our lives. God is always speaking to us and guiding us in the right direction, but how often do we listen carefully to Him? Many of us make the mistake of only listening to God when He tells us what we want to hear. As long as God is telling us to do what we want to do, we are eager to listen to Him and follow His guidance. Whenever God begins telling us something we do not want to hear and tells us to do something we do not want to do, we stop listening to Him and disregard His guidance. If we will listen carefully to God all the time, we will realize that God is always with us. If we will listen to God carefully at all times, we will know what we need to do, when we need to do it, and how we need to do His will for us. The vast majority of the confusion, pain, and struggles we have are the consequences of not listening to what God is telling us. We may not listen to God because He is not telling us what we want to hear, because we think we know what is best for us better than He does, because we are not walking closely with Him in our lives, or because we are too distracted by other things. Are you listening to what God is telling you? We all need to listen to God because He knows what is best and will never steer us wrong. If you are listening to God, do you always do what He tells you or do you just do whatever you want still? Make sure that you not only listen carefully to God, but you always do what He tells you and obey Him at all times.
