It's amazing what love and care can do for a dog. Waldo arrived to the shelter like this, he was hairless due to a severe case of demodectic mange. We knew we needed a special adopter for this sweet French Bulldog. We were fortunate to be contacted by a great adopter whom not only adopted other dogs with medical needs but is also a veterinarian in Tennessee.
Today Waldo has recovered his hair and this handsome pup is preparing for his acting debut on the stage of the Cumberland County Playhouse in the role of Rufus in "Legally Blonde." Read more about his story here:
Fun fact: When humans domesticated wolves, we basically bred Williams syndrome into dogs, which is characterized by "cognitive difficulties and a tendency to love everyone"
Meet Marty! She likes being the center of attention and will always try to get close to you to get love and pets! Marty is a very fun dog who enjoys everything, she loves people, she loves being brushed, she loves her kiddie pool, and she loves learning new tricks- just look at her learning how to give a high five.
Marty is a very confident, alert and very affectionate dog. She would love to join you on walks at the park or beach or simply just cuddling on the couch. She is very sweet and loves when you give her head scratches. Marty is an amazing dog who has been overlooked for months. Sadly, another victim of the Black Dog Syndrome, in which black dogs are passed over for adoption in favor of lighter colored dogs.
Look at those tail wags -- who wouldn't want to be greeted with those smiling faces and wiggly butts each day?! PLEASE SHARE!
Jill and her brother Jake are medium sized dogs who were adopted out from our shelter as puppies. Unfortunately, their owner became ill 5 years later and could no longer keep them so they were returned to our shelter.
Both are even-tempered, friendly, laid back and sweet dogs. Jill is the outgoing one of the two, Jake is more calm but also very sweet. They are both very good with other dogs and kids. These two are such a great pair, super well mannered and well behaved that you will be happy to have them around.
They are brother/sister and it would be great if they were adopted together but they have been in separate parts of our shelter at times and have done well apart. However, when they are together they are inseparable, they like to stay close to each other. They are happy dogs who love the attention, Jake loves head scratches and Jill will demand belly rubs. Please contact Maria to inquire about them at 786-205-6865
They bring so much joy and love into our lives!

Pluto is walking again! Pluto is the sweetest and happiest little boy. Pluto had a medical condition that has impaired his back legs. When Pluto arrived at the shelter he was totally paralyzed in his back legs. It's been a long process, we were able to buy him his wheelchair and take him to specialists and provided him with physical therapy. We were losing hope of seeing him walk again as we heard from vets that he was not going to be able to walk again but Pluto is just a little fighter and refused to believe that. Look at him walk now!
Have experience with American Bulldogs/ Pit Bulls? Please come and volunteer with us! We need people that would like to walk, run and play with our bully mixes, which are great and sweet dogs but can be a little stubborn and need a good and strong leadership.
We're always looking for more adult volunteers to come out socialize and play with the dogs on Saturdays.
No time commitments required!! Volunteer on your time. We're always glad to have you! If interested please call Maria at 786-205-6865
Happy 4th of July! Please keep your pets safe today as more pets get lost on July 4th than any other day of the year. Please follow these steps for your dog's safety.
1. Keep your dog INSIDE your home and turn on the TV to distract them from the sounds of the fireworks.
2. Make sure your dog is wearing a visible ID tag on his collar.
3. Take a current picture of your dog.
4. Keep him away from party food. Some human food is poisonous to dogs.
5. Don't take your dogs to the fireworks show.
