LETS GET REAL! It a longer one, sorry not sorry. Recently going through my phone 📱 I found an old note I wanted to share, dated November 2nd, 2015. This was in response to a couple of previous mentors at the time saying that using social media to build a clientele was either a waste of time or too easy 😂 (too easy for them to figure it out clearly) tell that to my full books 8 weeks out courtesy of my Facebook posts from 2012-2015 (which I think is when people stopped using facebook haha!) here it is: “I am so sick of getting shit for being "successful" on social media. You can talk all the shit you want about it and how the new generation of stylists are messing up the industry because they post their work but Facebook and Instagram have given me a platform to showcase what I can do to potential CLIENTS. To make MONEY, to pay my bills, to continue my education so I can grow my skill set. Not to show off to other stylists, or to pretend like I'm the best there is, because I know I'm not, I never will be, I only intend on being better than I was yesterday. I am in competition with no one but myself. If other stylists see my work and like it then that's awesome! Who doesn't love getting complimented! What is the difference between posting work on social media and putting an ad in the newspaper? I use the Internet versus the newspaper because I know I will reach a broader, younger audience and it's FREE. It's not easy to remember to take pictures, post content, hashtag accordingly and to build a following, it does in fact take work and time and skill to do all of that! If you look down upon me because I use the tools of this day and age that are at my disposal to better my business and grow my clientele then I'm sorry you feel that way, that's all I can say.” What’s great about looking back at this note for me, is that now nearly 3 years later, the generation that resisted social media is embracing it. They’ve seen it’s power and they understand that it’s not going away. This is a part of social evolution, and it is so important in our lives, not just our industry, to keep up with these changes - now I’m wondering if I taught a social media class, who would come?

Each human life has the potential to be dramatic, thrilling, and awe-inspiring. Our lives are, in truth, ours to design. Each day, we make choices that influence the character of our experiences, and our decisions determine whether our paths are rousing or tedious, breathtaking or tiresome. We can create an exciting life by simply doing what excites us whenever the opportunity presents itself. Your passions may ebb and flow, and what excites you one year may not excite you the next, but when you make excitement a regular part of your existence, life becomes more fun and more fulfilling. #dowhatexcitesyou#divinginthedeependofashallowprofession 😍💜🔮 #oraclesalon

The photo doesn’t quite do my color work justice 🙃 the sun had gone down and we lost all natural light, the worst right 😫 but I couldn’t not share how beautiful my long time guest @kim_stone is!! We have done so many colors over the years (this plum purplely colormelt being one of the more “conservative” looks we’ve done) and with those magical green eyes she has rocked them all!! She is a scientist, former volunteer at the Nature and Science Museum, knitting extraordinaire, photographer, creative, music lover and gosh so much more. She’s one badass mamma jamma and I always love our time together 😈 #divinginthedeependofashallowprofession#hairdressershavethebestjob@oraclesalon 🔮✨

You know, there's nothing wrong with enjoying looking at the surface of the ocean itself, except that when you finally see what goes on underwater, you realize that you've been missing the whole point of the ocean. Staying on the surface all the time is like going to the circus and staring at the outside of the tent. #divein#divinginthedeependofashallowprofession 🙏🏼✨🔮 @oraclesalon
