This is what my practice has looked like this week. I’ll be totally honest on my scheduler I had lots of plans to get back into a rigorous morning yoga practice since my daughter started school on Wednesday. I had plans today to start a full on detox diet to rid my body of summer heat and toxicity. But alas this is it. Establishing the new school routine was enough. The A/C breaking down in 100 degree heat was enough. Feeling my body coming down with some kinda funk was enough for me to listen and just rest. The new rigorous practice can start Monday and I’m not allowing any kinda shame or guilt or coulda or shoulda enter my space, because well, I’m too hot to let it. 😅

August is #worldbreastfeedingmonth celebrating this amazing thing our bodies do and also the tremendous benefits breastfeeding has for both mom, baby, and society as a whole. •
Sadly breastfeeding is found to be quite difficult for some mainly due to lack of support, unrealistic expectations, lack of preparation, and lack of timely interventions. It wasn’t even until recent (2011) that the department of health had a call to action to support breastfeeding. So thankfully more support and normalization is now a focus. 🤱

When I was in my lactation training last month I couldn’t help but make the connection between breastfeeding and our chakras. The whole process is so magical and is really a connection of our 2nd, 4th, and 6th chakras. Once the placenta is delivered (2nd chakra) messengers from the breast travel to the brain via the nervous system and the pituitary gland (6th chakra) release hormones that then travel to the breast (4th chakra) through the bloodstream to start producing milk. It’s through nipple stimulation and sucking that these hormones keep working to keep supplying. It’s pretty magical. ✨

And as we draw more awareness to breastfeeding it doesn’t mean we discount the moms who weren’t able to do so. Being a mom is such a challenging journey that is unique to each of us. It’s moms who know how to best nourish their children, but it’s us as a society who get to change the conversation and the judgments. For me I don’t think I was even aware that me whipping out my boob to feed my baby bothered people I just did it. As we normalize feeding our children more moms will feel empowered and supported. ⭕️⭕️

I taught some yoga on Saturday. This was before the horrific events of our weekend. At one point of the class I asked those participating to move into down dog chanting OM. It’s interesting when you ask people to do this...most don’t, or feel uncomfortable doing so. Therefore I asked them to keep doing it until I could hear them and I reminded them of how precious their voices are. How we have to be more confident, more vocal in times like today. Those who are arriving on their mats and doing their own work need to speak their truth. We need to hear you stand up to the guy that posts hatred on his Facebook page, we need to hear you telling people you’re uncomfortable with their racist comments and that you won’t stand for hate and bigotry. We have to be ready to admit when we’re wrong or don’t know or are acting out of our own privilege. 🗣

We also need to hear you telling others you believe in them, that you’re here for them, and that you’re willing to walk this hard road alongside them. It takes all of us to change. I don’t want to become numb and I don’t want us to think our voices don’t matter. 🗣

I’m planning to go donate blood today. I’m sending love and word to those who are suffering in El Paso and Dayton. 💔

I’m feeling completely grateful for such a beautiful morning teaching yoga in the Buddy Holly plaza. The sky was the perfect overcast and having so many friends and loved ones practicing together was so special. ❤️

As we moved I asked for us to make amends with our bodies and invite in more of our playful nature. It is my belief that when we honor the majesty of our own Self we’ll better honor that of one another and our planet. ❤️

Wearing this shirt from @beloveapparel and All Profits of their “We Are Family' Design Are Being Donated to Support the Reunification of Families Separated at the Border. ❤️

And my current favorite yoga pants made by @togethercalifornia through conscious acts of love and recycled water bottles. ❤️

“In meditation, luxuriate in knowing this deep and simple truth.
Every cell is an organ of sense
Infused with majesty.” ~The Radiance Sutras 🌹

How is it the last week of July already? 🌞

As amazed I am at how quickly time seems to flow I’m just as grateful to the quality of the time I’ve been experiencing. It’s like the last five years have flashed before my eyes and yet at the same time they’ve been filled with so much growth and integration and understanding that I only feel like I’m on the right path. As we finalize this month with a new moon we’re being asked to step even deeper into the gifts we were born to share. So let’s not let time slip through our fingers, let’s instead dance fully in this show of life. ✨

This picture is from five years ago, the first summer of yoga in the plaza, and probably the first time I taught a class to over one hundred people. After years of teaching this is by far one of my favorite events. If you’re in the Lubbock area I’m teaching this Saturday August 3rd 9-10am in the Buddy Holly plaza next to the @lubbockdfm 🌈 I’d love to see you! •

Over my career what I’ve offered continues to morph and change, but my mission still is the same: I want to help people. If you’re in the helping profession then you’re often taught to find your niche market. Who do you want to work with? This has always been a challenge for me mainly because I love all ages of people and really all types and I believe we all need support. What has helped shape the way I work with clients is having my own personal experiences. Through my own tumultuous journey of becoming a mother I’ve observed how needed it is to give support to families at the time of welcoming a new child. Through my own experiences of yoga and meditation I’ve noticed how much more grounded I show up in the world ((especially as a mom)) when I have inspired daily routines and rituals. So as I get more organized in my message and my classes it is my hope that some of what has helped me will also help you. 🔹

Here’s a current picture with a #flashbackfriday message as I’ve been a bit nostalgic lately it seems. 🖤

Let’s take a little trip back to January ‘18. I was half way through my studies with @nutritionschool and I was struggling to make ends meet while also taking on too much. My dear friend @suebaccaberry saw what was going on and offered me a job at her shop which also happens to be my favorite shop in all of Lubbock @tumbleweedbotanicals . She saw my work ethic and my desire to learn. Together we talked about our goals and dreams and encouraged the steps we each needed to take in order to get there. I got to absorb her knowledge and find my own curiosity of herbal remedies and healing crystals. I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned in this last year and a half. I also learned more about the retail world and let me tell you, thank your favorite shop owners, because this work isn’t easy. Gradually as my private coaching and counseling practice has grown her shop has also gotten more and more busy! So, today was my last shift. It’s time for me to give all five days a week to my private clients and yoga offerings and the shop is filled with the best staff. I’m just so freaking grateful and also reminded of the power of shared intention. Thanks @suebaccaberry , I love you! 🥰

I took Nikaya out to a restaurant my grandma used to take me to when I was little. It’s probably one of the most beautiful places in Lubbock where peacocks and peacock babies roam freely. 🦚

As we were leaving the musician started playing a cover of the Beatles song: In My Life: and it felt like the perfect song to encompass my feelings. 💕

“There are places I'll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone, and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends, I still can recall
Some are dead, and some are living
In my life, I've loved them all” •
I can honestly say I’ve loved them all.
