Cracking day for a coffee and beer event! Find us with our brewing pals @beavertownbeer at Uppers & Downers at @cratebrewery till 5pm today. Come try our beer: -
Grateful Bread, Breakfast Kvass, 2.9% ABV
Inspired by a breakfast of black coffee and marmalade on toast, this beer was also brewed to highlight waste in the food industry. Much of the fermentable sugars for the yeast were taken from stale rye bread steeped overnight in water, whilst the orange zest used in both the boil and conditioning was excess zest from fruit processed for our seasonal IPA Bloody 'Ell. Finally, we conditioned the beer on waste coffee from a roasting run at Caravan Coffee Roasters. Light in alcohol, but full bodied, with notes of spiced rye and caramel from the malt. This is backed up with fruitiness from the orange and coffee.
Muraho! (Hello!) Greeting from Rwanda!
Our green coffee buyer Steve and head of quality control Freda are in Rwanda visiting some of the washing stations we work with season after season with the help of @rawmaterial.coffee and @murahotradingco -
The weather has been really unpreditable this year and it’s been raining a lot, which has delayed the harvest somewhat. -
That said, we have tasted some delicious coffees, some showing characteristics more akin to origins such as Ethiopia and Kenya! -
We can’t wait till you too can try these later in the year. #rwanda#welltravelled#craftcoffee#destinationcoffee
