Five years ago, I stepped into my wedding dress and walked (Hell, I almost ran!) down the aisle towards my future. We were young, with two small daughters, and a big list of dreams. We stood before a waterfall and an audience full of our friends and family, making promises to each other. Some of which we would later find are not always easy to keep. I'd be lying if I told anyone that marriage is full of romance and is nothing short of a fairy tale. It simply is not. Although, I do LOVE that when I'm doing laundry, how your arms slip around my waist from behind me and gentle kisses are pressed upon my neck. And, I do LOVE that when I'm stressed out, you appear with a bowl of ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup in the shape of a heart. And once more, I do love when your hand reaches over the center console to find its resting place on my thigh in what seems to be our never ending car rides. While I am loving the little things that you do that only have significance to us, like an inside joke to the best of friends, it is not romantic to be dizzy from our world spinning around our girls, and rarely around each other. It's not romantic to be overly exhausted due to work and the every day stress of being an adult. I have never read a fairy tale that warned me that I'd have only thirty seconds of alone time with my Prince Charming during the week, which would be spent deciding on what we were going to have for dinner. Still, amidst all the chaos, the ups, the downs, the 180's and 360's that these past five years have given us, and that we have endured, our love has always revealed that we are right where we belong. While marriage has proven to be hard work, and not for the closed, weak minded and faint of heart, I'm grateful to have embarked on this mapless journey with you. Marriage is about giving and choices. I will always choose you, and give you all of me. Here's to us, our girls, our supporters, our skeptics, our critics, our haters, the five years behind us, and the many more ahead.
Fun fact: I proposed to him. #happyanniversary #5years
