It’s #transformationtuesday!What a difference a year and a BUNCH of change makes.
The literal day after I left my fiancé. See how puffy my face was? I don’t think I ever cried so hard in my life. And most that know me know I don’t really cry much. I wasn’t even crying for me or because my own heart was broken - it was. I was crying because I felt so terrible for leaving him and his kids. Over the next year though, I’d realize those were mostly wasted tears. Can’t feel bad for someone who was only sad to lose a warm body - not YOU or your soul.
Same hometown gym locker room, completely different person. I may not have shed many pounds between photos but I lost all the things I had become saddled with in two years of a relationship that wasn’t meant to be and at times was downright toxic. Definitely made some gains since then (unfortunately some in the form of debt thanks to unpaid bills ) but the best is that smile! Powerlifting and the people I’ve met through strength sports helped me rise up to do the most difficult thing ever in breaking someone else’s heart to free my own. If you’re reading this, chances are you helped me in some way rediscover that which I had lost or not yet discovered. As the Lost Boys in Hook said “oh, THERE you are, Peter!”
Happy Fathers Day to my main partner in crime! He’s on the sunny shores of beautiful Skiathos, Greece right now with his awesome girlfriend and her kiddo but I have more than enough photo evidence of our tomfoolery and hijinx to cover today. Can’t wait to hear all about your first international trip over an #RARbrew upon your return! Proud of you, love you to the moon and back!
Happiest of happies to all the dads, dad figures, dad bods, stepdads, and anyone else wearing all white sneakers, tall socks and lecturing younger folk about the nuances of grilling today!
Went on a super long hike through #lochravenreservoir after bench day today. Checked off all my desired zoological classes and saw:
Mammals - deer (including a buck with velvet antlers and several females!), bun bun, squirrel
Birbs - Osprey, blue bird, Eastern towhee, cardinals, chickadees, robins, thrush, woodpeckers, heron, crows and more.
Insects - caught my first lightning bug of the summer finally!
Amphibian - an American toad hopped across our path just as I was lamenting I hadn’t seen an amphib yet.
REPTILE!! No kidding, minutes after I said I wanted to check off the reptile column, we came upon this mama Eastern Box Turtle digging a hole, I presume to lay her eggs! What a complete delight to have lived here my whole life and never seen such a phenomenon! Dexter was only temporarily interested as there were deer to stalk.
Nature is pretty cool if you stop and make time for her once in a while. 🦗
