Did you know that free range, organic meat has a better nutrition profile and Omega3 fatty acid ratio compared to grain fed or corn fed meat?

Just like the supplements you take, it all comes down to industry standards and health safety. •
Eating free range/ grass fed is the equivalent of seeing a dietician or licensed nutritionist registered to personally compound nutritional supplements according to your health and lifestyle.

Eating corn fed & GMO meat is the equivalent of buying dodgy Chinese supplements made in covert steroid labs and shipped to your local supplement shop under off label names.

How good is that new supplement advertising on the radio? 🤣

Talking about the latest magic supplement.. And dennn, at the end in a fast high pitch voice saying; ”supplements can not replace a Balanced diet, supplements may help supplement nutrition intake in a balanced diet” 🤣
because in Australia the TGA doesn't like you making up bullshit to your customers..

How do you know If that particular supplement is going to help your situation based off your lifestyle, diet and genetics?

Even as a clinical nutritionist and researcher, I don't know what supps you need until we chat over a detailed consultation... in most cases you just need to add some extra rock salt to your diet (electrolytes).

the person selling these magic supps to you , using big words, definitely don't know what you need🤣
In fact the person selling these supps to you most likely don't even know the metabolism interactions that will happen inside your body, where the supplements were made, how they are made and using what ingredients with what equipment.

For that reason amongst others, gymbro ego’s and MLMs could be possibly detrimental to your health. .

That’s an offal amount of meat! B-vitamins & Iron.

You need iron to make 5-HTP the precursor for serotonin.

80-90% of serotonin is manufactured in the gut & around 70% of our immune system is located in the GI tract. So iron deficiency, GI distress, & immune activation could be an underlying cause of depression”. Eat your red meat, people.
Did you know, 1 in 6 Americans have diagnosed depression & there are more prescriptions written for SSRIs in the US than people to take them.

Also invest in quality meat. There was a headline about a toppled semi not too long ago- It was full of Skittles (yes, the candy) that were headed to feed cows. If you want to eat Skittle cows, totally up to you, but probablyy better to stick with (healthy) grass-fed cows. There is a huge difference in the price and quality of meats.. grass fed, free range, pasture finished, grain fed, grain finished, corn fed, soy finished. Did you know grain fed cows have a higher Oestrogen profile in the meat!?

How good is steak, seriously? But usually we’re lazyAF & just buy mince because it’s quick & easy. Or chicken because we ‘think’ it’s healthier!
Chicken actually has a much higher Omega6:Omega3 fatty acid ratio? I’m not saying chicken is bad but, yes too much Omega6 can be bad.
Mix it up, eat a variety, eat all the colours of the rainbow....
And every now and then swap that chicken breast fillet for a steak!

Do you even eat offal meat?

Circadian Rhythm ⏰
Is the biological process of your endogenous clock cycling over a 24hr period.
Derived from the Latin word ‘Circa-Diem’ meaning ‘Approximately a day.’

Scientists are only just beginning to understand how parts of your biological clock works.

Do you get drowsy in the afternoons yet left eyes wide open a few hours later 💤
Are your toilet breaks like clockwork🚽 hormones on time ⏲
You can thank your Circadian Rhythm 🦗

Regulated in the Hypothalamus, a small part of your brain that connects your nervous system to your endocrine system.

The group of nerves known as the Suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), is connected to your optic nerves and responds to darkness & light sending signals through out our body to regulate things like body temperature, heart rate, blood Pressure and the release of hormones like melatonin.

Researchers have noted this is why we are at our cognitive best in the late mornings and most likely wanting to nap between 2-3pm.
In the same way we perk up in the evenings with our ‘second wind’ and are most likely in our deepest sleep cycle between 3-4am.

It’s believed around 15% of our genes are regulated by our Circadian Rhythm and scientists have linked it to health issues like Diabetes, Obesity, Depression & Dementia through regulation of hormones, although a ton of research is still needed.

We are no longer slaves to our biological clocks like we were once as kids.
Work, Sports, Partying, Play time and a ton of everyday demands have put a strain on this, so don’t feel left out..

Next time your body is telling you to take a nap it might be wise to listen 😴 •
Quick tips;
🌞 Turn of all blue lights when the sun goes down.
🛏 Stay away from your phones, TV’s & tablets at least an hour before bed.
🌅 Leave your blinds open and get used to waking with the sunrise.

If you are a shift worker let me know how this relates to you in the comments 👇🏼

The Ketogenic diet refers to a low carb/high fat diet (<10%CHO,>70%FAT)
Where your body switches to ketones over glucose as a fuel source.

Ketosis refers to your body breaking down fats into ketones.

Ketogenisis is when your liver produces ketones via fasting or lack of carbs.

Ketoacidosis is when blood ketone levels exceed 7Mmol and is only of real concern for insulin dependant diabetics and severe alcoholics.

Protein is gluconeogenic meaning your body can turn excess protein into glucose, hence any diet over 20% protein is not considered to be ketogenic.

Your body requires approx 120gm glucose per day for obligatory glucose users (red blood cells, central nervous system, anabolic metabolism).

Your body produces roughly 120gm glucose per day through gluconeogenesis of amino acids and glycerol.

Ketogenic diet does not mean you will lose more fat, simply implies your body burns fat as a fuel source, calorie deficit still matters.
In fact, it has been shown weight loss remains the same when protein intake is matched to a similar calorie diet.

Health Benefits to Ketosis;
*Lowering insulin sensitivity and hunger, yet again has shown no extra advantage to a calorie deficit diet.
*Alzheimer's patients have recently shown to have success via offering the brain a secondary fuel source.
*Epilepsy patients have shown to have a reduced number of seizures.
*cancer cells (in some cases) have shown a reduced/slower rate of growth since glucose is the main energy supply to cancer metabolism (1931 Nobel prize in medicine Otto Warburg).

Summarising:
A lot of studies around the ketogenic diet have been taken out of context.
Keto can be extremely difficult to stick too and for weight loss, most people tend to bounce back in the long run.
It has shown success in some health applications. However remain cautious of exogenous ketones and if trialling a true ketogenic diet I recommend to supplement with electrolytes.
Without a doubt I would present evidence of the keto diet to my oncologist if I was diagnosed with cancer.
(Always consult your health care professionals before starting any new treatments).
