“I can’t really remember a time when I didn’t want to be a marine biologist. Some of my earliest dreams were about breathing underwater,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Richard Wylie. “I have now been a marine biologist for around 25 years and with over 4,000 dives, I have probably spent between 6-8 months underwater all up. If there is any place on this world (other than with my wife and daughter) that I feel truly welcome at any time of day or night, it is in the water. It is my second home! And underwater photography is my form of zen meditation.”

“I love it Richard, this is fantastic. It feels like a daydream, I love how my imagination has fun with your photo. And I really love your comment to #YourShotPhotographer David Hessell: ‘Thanks very much David, and yes, that is a classic Bourne image! I hadn’t even thought of it but thank you for reminding me — both the image itself at the beginning of the movie and to re-watch the series, they’re one of my all-time favourite movies. Thanks again!’” — @natgeoyourshot Producer David Y. Lee (@davidylee)

Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPcommunity
The goal this weekend is to make photos and videos that celebrate togetherness, positivity and treating others with kindness. Our project takes inspiration from the Kering Foundation’s annual White Ribbon For Women campaign, which raises awareness of violence against women each November.
Here are some tips to get inspired:
Focus on your local community. Create images that show how your peers are standing up for one another and coming together.
Document kind interactions that show compassion like providing a shoulder for someone to lean on, or a group hug.
Find ways to express positivity. Whether it’s capturing small acts of kindness, like a big smile between two friends, or seeking out props that symbolize peace, like the campaign’s white ribbon. Also consider other emblems that illustrate a sense of tranquility within your image or video.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPcommunity hashtag only to photos and videos shared over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. By adding the #WHPcommunity hashtag, you consent to and grant Instagram all rights to repost your photo or video. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video shared over the weekend with the #WHPcommunity hashtag is eligible for the project and, if selected, to be featured next week.

Your Shot photographer Allan Pudlitzke found inspiration when he came upon this Japanese Maple tree at the Portland Japanese Garden. “This scene was very alluring and drew me in,” said Pudlitzke. “I hunched down to a lower perspective to capture the color of the light glistening through the leaves and branches.”

Top Shot features the photo with the most votes from the previous day’s Daily Dozen, 12 photos chosen by the Your Shot editors from thousands of recent uploads.
