It’s a news story that has likely caught your eye already: in some African elephant populations, poaching is driving natural selection of smaller tusks, or no tusks at all. This may shield individual animals from harm, but what about the effects on a species that relies on tusks for everything from digging to lifting to gathering food? It’s profound to see our devastating impact on elephants made manifest in this way. What a terrible indictment of our era. #ivorybelongstoelephants #endpoaching #conservation #elephants

When I was born, there were around 450,000 lions. Today, the possibility that we could lose these magnificent animals forever looms large. Many of you here are already doing whatever you can to prevent that from happening. And many others can be galvanised into action if they’re shown what the impact of a world without lions would be. It’s time for us all to be conservationists. #bigcats #conservation #lions #lionconservation #lions #bigcatconservation

Last week brought so much devastating news for conservation and wildlife. These setbacks and defeats are positive in one way only: by angering and distressing us, they force us to steel our resolve and fight on more fiercely, together. Our profound love for this place keeps driving us. #conservation #wildlife #thereisnoplanetb #endthetrade

The view from above. Always fascinating. Always another reminder of how beautiful this Earth is.

They’re so incredibly intelligent. Having spent countless fascinated and fascinating hours in their presence, I have no doubt that we’re only just beginning to grasp the extent of their wisdom and intelligence. It’s so crucial to make people aware of what we’d be losing if these magnificent animals were to disappear. #elephants #ivorybelongstoelephants #endpoaching #endwildlifetrafficking #extinctionisforever

It’s fascinating to contemplate the extraordinary biological diversity of mammals on our planet - from the truly tiny to the large and lumbering. Isn’t it devastating, then, to know that human beings are cutting down, in a very real sense, this incredible mammalian tree of life. A new study paints a sad picture of how human-caused extinctions are erasing billions of years of this remarkable evolutionary history. It’s an important read: link in bio. #thereisnoplanetb #extinctionisforever #wildlifeconservation

We've spent thousands and thousands of hours in the presence of these incredible animals. To use our lives as a yardstick then, and consider how lion numbers have declined in that time, brings both a painful feeling of loss and an added sense of urgency to what we consider our life's calling: doing everything in our power to protect the lions we have left. #bigcatconservation #lions #bigcats #wildlife #conservation

This week is a noteworthy one for #conservation. The Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference (#IWT18) is taking place in London to address what has become one of the biggest threats to endangered wildlife worldwide. Whether the meeting leads to real change & more effective action remains to be seen, but it’s encouraging to see this urgent issue getting much-needed global attention. Follow developments (use #endwildlifecrime), raise awareness & petition your governments to act. We have a lot to fight for. #killthetrade #conservation #endwildlifetrafficking
