"Women, with their intuitive instinct, understood that I dreamed not only of making them more beautiful, but happier too." Christian Dior

Black and white need be neither classic nor boring as this Cruise 2019 look proves. The 'Saddle' bag is one thing, but by looking to the saddle girths of Mexican escaramuzas for inspiration, #MariaGraziaChiuri moved the motifs into the textured graphic weaves of a skirt with a stiff lace-like embroidery and topped it all with an authoritative white shirt. Ride tall!

Friday's Cruise 2019 show took place in Chantilly, a town outside Paris synonymous with lace. Looking right at home, an utterly elegant and delicately ruffled lace top cinched with a broad leather saddle-inspired belt over a finely-pleated skirt, its volume recalling that of the Mexican escaramuza riders' skirt and its toile de Jouy motif given a fresh urgency by #MariaGraziaChiuri who replaced the twee pastoral scenes with fearsome animal imagery.

Exquisite guipure lace-effect embroidery makes for the perfect marriage of modernity and ancestral savoir-faire in this Cruise 2019 top. With twill pants tucked into scallop-edged leather boots, #MariaGraziaChiuri ensures that, even with the equestrian overtones, if you’re not going to ride into the coming season you can at least stride into it.

Strict tailoring gets an injection of sleek femininity for Cruise 2019 in this equestrian-inspired beige asymmetric jacket and full skirt slung, part of #MariaGraziaChiuri’s exploration of tradition through a modern prism held as seen at the Grandes Écuries, the magnificent royal stables in Chantilly, France.

A bustier top and full skirt are a riot of vermicelli-embroidered and beaded floral color for Cruise 2019. This was a nod to the fiercely feminine outfits worn by the escaramuzas. The supremely talented Mexican female horse riders not only inspired #MariaGraziaChiuri but provided the central performance at last evening’s show held at the palatial stables in Chantilly outside Paris.

Setting the Cruise 2019 mood right out of the gate, @SelenaForrest with THOSE rubber army boots and THAT 'Book Tote' bag, the Dior Oblique pattern of which lined the cotton coat with its reworked animalistic toile de Jouy motif, indicative of the clash of contemporary and tradition on which Artistic Director #MariaGraziaChiuri is riffing.
