In the Motherpeace deck by Vicki Noble and Karen Vogel, the Wheel of Fortune card, a classic in tarot, is composed of an astrological sideral, showing all the twelve houses of the zodiac, with the focus of concentration illustrated by the ascendant sign. It typically represents the start of a period in life full of excitement, the new and the unexpected. Perfect for our own House with its face to the future! ⠀

“It’s not necessarily about physical death, it's about the beauty of the shedding of the skin that a snake does, that we can transform our lives. It’s about transformation and renewal that’s really beneficial,” said Vicki Noble, one of the two women behind the Motherpeace tarot deck appearing on garments and accessories in #MariaGraziaChiuri's Cruise 2018 collection.⠀

The beautiful pieces in this year’s Lady Dior Art project thrillingly pushed the limits of the House’s savoir-faire. From Friedrich Kunath to Lee Bul, all ten invited artists had free rein to translate their exacting visions onto the ‘Lady Dior’ bags, thanks to the House’s uniquely creative atelier. Now that the dust has settled and the bags are available in an exclusive run, our icon has ascended even further the heights of the exceptional. Click the link in our bio for more information!⠀

Among the ten artists in this year’s #DiorLadyArt project, Chinese multimedia artist Hong Hao focused on transferring his large-scale art to a pair of limited-edition ‘Lady Dior’ handbags. The one here is a re-imagining of his signature scanned objects, with which he conjures up a colorful pop art effect, injecting the sophisticated bag with a dose of sunny optimism!⠀

Fashion and art share an undeniable connection, and with the #DiorLadyArt project we enhanced that bond even more. See David Wiseman’s reimagined ‘Lady Dior’ bag, in which the American artist twisted the architectural design, the cannage and the charms into a bucolic creation. Its particularly classic realization has Dior gray set off with delicate lily-of-the valley charms, a nod to one of Monsieur Dior’s favorite flowers, expressing the artist’s desire to achieve detailed inventiveness and creative perfection.⠀

For the second year of the #DiorLadyArt project, the Korean artist Lee Bul, a long-term House collaborator, gave the emblematic ‘Lady Dior’ bag a shimmering makeover. Covered with dozens of tiny mirrors, following over sixty trials to get it just right, she recreated the effect of a shattered mirror, a visually arresting result with high-octane impact.⠀

The #DiorLadyArt project continues with the American artist Jack Pierson, who scribbled his designs on the iconic ‘Lady Dior’ bag to express what he calls “the tragedy inherent in the pursuit of glamour.” Recalling his nostalgic and seductive works, he transformed the House’s emblematic design into swirling and mesmerizing artworks, evoking feelings simultaneously ephemeral and eternal!⠀

For this second year of the #DiorLadyArt project, the Swiss-Guinean artist @NamsaLeuba mixed Western and African cultures, giving a smooth and high-color twist to the traditional design of the ‘Lady Dior’. Listen as she explains the inspirations behind her two works, which she has focused on texture and process, and how she merged African identities in her creation of the exclusive ‘Lady Dior’ bags.⠀⠀

For this year’s #DiorLadyArt project, we gave our most iconic bag to ten internationally-renowned artists to reinterpret through their own creative aesthetic. Embracing the challenge, the multidisciplinary artist Spencer Sweeney transformed the emblematic design into something unique. He skillfully gave the bags an “unmade” feel so that the owner feels part of the artistic process. Listen as he discusses how his designs came about. ⠀⠀

Amongst the artists participating in this year’s #DiorLadyArt project is @FriedrichKunath, who revisited the ‘Lady Dior’ bag with a photographic effect of a couple kissing and the addition of disparate messages evoking the insolent mood of 1970s America. Check out our video to discover more in his own words.⠀

Among the youngest names in this year’s Dior Lady Art project is American artist Jamilla Okubo. Drawing on her Kenyan ancestry, she reimagined the 'Lady Dior' bag by redefining the typical narratives surrounding the African diaspora. Take a look at one of her three designs which mixed Kenyan-style beadwork with typically couture crystals. The artisanally complex techniques involved in this recreation pushed the House’s leather savoir-faire to incredible heights!⠀

The architectural structure of the ‘Lady Dior’ morphed into a rainbow-hued visual statement in the hands of pioneering artist and urban poet John Giorno. Employing lines from his poetry - “you got to burn to shine” and “we gave a party for the gods and the gods all came” - he communicates the message that women carrying his bags have the right to feel both strong and shy.⠀
