Wheels up to VanCity I’ll be presenting my team’s research on medication related osteonecrosis of the jaw at the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology annual meeting #AcademicAdventures
True clinic stories: 79 year-old female presents with lesions in her mouth. I introduce myself as Dr. Laurel and start working through her chief complaint. She stops me briefly and says, “Actually I was hoping to see Dr. Henderson today. Is he here? My doctor at Norris Cancer Center told me that’s who I should see.” After a good laugh and a great first appointment, I think she agrees that I’m exactly the Dr. Henderson she was looking for #YesILookYoung#IloveYouToo
I call myself Dr. Laurel because she gets to call herself Dr. Henderson and there will NEVER be anyone like her. Kindness, flexibility, love of her patients, decency, and a desire to just do good work are the values I’ve learned at her elbow over the years. Happy almost birthday Dr. Mom!
Strong. Confident. Powerful. Beautiful. The swimsuit competition provides so many women with so much confidence and self love—including this woman! I’m very disappointed with @missamerica in changing the format of the competition to exclude these aspects of personal development. The high achieving women of pageantry deserve a forum to show off their hard work and their healthy lifestyles! And to those who believe that the swimsuit and gown competition are all about esthetics and the male gaze and is inherently anti-feminist, I urge you to compete and see for yourself. #FeministsWearBikinisToo#WhatWereTheyThinking
It’s hard to believe that I started my journey in pageants just over 2 years ago. Watching the @missusa preliminary competition tonight and seeing so many friends and sisters absolutely SHINE brings me so much joy! Pageants have only made me more informed of the world around me, encouraged me to have an opinion on tough topics, honed my personal health, and truly opened my eyes to the beauty and potential within myself. To all of the women competing at Miss USA and especially @missmtusa@missorusa@missnjusa@missnvusa and @misscausa I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! You’re such inspiring women and beautiful in every way that matters! Can’t wait to get back on the stage myself! #sisterhood
Proud to call my absolutely perfect, smart, kind, hilarious, and gorgeous dental school baby @drcaith2os DR. WATERS! #TrojanFamily
USC’s commencement today has helped me reflect on my journey to triple specialization in Orofacial Pain, Oral Medicine, and Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. The 2018 ASB President spoke of her medical struggles during dental school and it brought up so many familiar memories. I was sick for SO long during dental school and had no clue what was wrong with me. I was on antibiotics weekly and had more kidney infections than I’d like to remember. It took a specialist who saw my pain and took my concerns seriously to suggest an out-of-the-box surgery that forever changed my life. I distinctly remember leaving the examination room after the initial appointment and having to take a moment in the waiting room just to quietly happy cry to myself that I had a diagnosis and a plan. My hope is to give my patients a bit of good news that will make their lives a little easier. I know it doesn’t take an ordeal like mine to make a good doctor, but I don’t think it hurts. Here’s to 365 days until I get to call myself a specialist! #WorldsHappiestResident
