Today, I’m celebrating #nationalmuttday with my favorite one. I adopted Leo three years ago from @athenshumanesociety. He’s definitely a mutt: his mom was a poodle/spaniel mix, but he looks (and acts) like a boxer. Tag @dogsofath today and show off your favorite mutt!
#Throwback to that time we meet Lucy. She was only 4 months old at the time, and she was really curious about the camera. We bet she's still so happy with her family! #TBT
Squash (6 months old). "We just started training him. I think he was 8 to 10 weeks old when I got him. I've been told he could be a Shepherd mix, or a Great Dane mix. We don't know. But either way, he's the biggest cuddler, ever. He's very loving and affectionate, especially with children."
Well, it's the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Dogs of Athens. I've had the chance to meet lots of great dogs and their humans, and I can't wait to meet even more.
As a special treat, over the next few weeks, I'll share some additional pics of some previously featured pups. I take lots of pictures of each dog, and there are always a bunch of great ones. I usually only choose one or two to post online, but I have some more to share
Brandy (5.5 years old). "I've had her most of her life. She wandered on to a farm. That's all we really knew about her. She's a good girl. She's a really sweet dog. Her personality [makes her special]. She gets pretty excited about other dogs. She's pretty social."
Moose (Great Pyrenees/Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd Mix, about 3 years old). "I got him from Angels Among Us in Atlanta. He's really good with kids. He loves kids. And he's huge, but he doesn't know. He doesn't act it like, either. He thinks he's a lap dog, which is hilarious. He loves hiking. He's my camping buddy. He loves cars; he's great in the car. He just goes to sleep. It's amazing. He's just wonderful. I think he's perfect. He's a little special, but who isn't?"
Queenie (13 years old). "She's pretty poised. She just likes to take in everything that's going on around her. She's just really calm...but she does not like it when other dogs bark around her. She might be over being out here this morning."
Pancake (Corgi, 4 years old). "I've had him since he was a puppy. He's the happiest dog ever. Everyone always gets excited to see him. He puts a smile on people's faces wherever we go." Photographed at opening weekend of the @athensfarmersmarket.
Did you know tomorrow is #NationalPuppyDay? I have so much fun getting to meet your pups and hear your stories. So to celebrate, here's our story!
Leo (3 years old). "When I met Leo at the shelter, I was terrified of dogs. But when I saw that puppy face looking up at me, expectantly, something clicked. I picked him up (he's the first dog I ever held) and just knew that he was about to change my life. Now, I love all the dogs. Leo has become an ambassador for shelter dogs, and he's the reason I started Dogs of Athens...to raise awareness about adoption and to promote responsible pet ownership. He truly is the most affectionate and loyal and loving pup and I can't imagine life without him."
Ace (7 years old). "He is the perfect combination of really smart and super sweet and eager to please. So it's kind of like his smartness is used for good rather then for other nefarious [things]. We've dubbed him as a "gateway dog" because our friends and family would come over and get to know him, and then go adopt a dog. He is responsible for four… no, five adoptions. He's a super special guy, and we are very lucky."
