oh hell yeah it did. i went up to joshua tree in august for a sneaky look at what this year’s festival has up its sleeve. thanks as ever to phil and crew for trusting me with the evolution of their awesome story. link in da b.
this is ed and his magic band grizzly bear. ed was one of my first new friends when i moved to LA. we met under strange circumstances and he lent an ear during a weird time for me so in return i lent my ears to him several times over about 14 months. he’d play me the bare bones ideas and eventual evolution of songs that would form their stunning album ‘painted ruins’. i’d listen to them over various crappy soundsystems that he’d always apologise for - whether that was tinny teeny speakers or his car audio system. during one session i had my first edible and ate it whole naively, then felt the LOLs effects for honestly two days afterwards. ed helped me through that too. he put me in touch with all his individual band mates so i could interview them separately and write their bio, such is their commitment to band democracy. i truly believe in the passion they’ve committed to this album and watching it live tonight was a total treat. Europe, treat them with kindness, go see them play. ed, definitely the best soundsystem i’ve heard it on yet. 🖤 you dude.
