Happy Eid Happy Family Gathering (Doni Maulistya, 2011)
The festival of Eid Al-fitr is upon us and in Indonesia, it has become more than just a religious holiday. Just like these photos of multiple families coming home from Eid Prayer at a mosque in Gumuk Pasir, southern coast of Yogyakarta, it is also a momentum where social regiment is reinvigorated within a short time. The temporary migration of people to their hometowns, a break from the routine, culinary delights, friendly gossips and chitchats, family gatherings and wholesome feasts.
"(...) in making artworks, I am always interested in exploring the themes of history, tradition, and other dialectic dimensions that happens within society, an intermingling of culture."
May you have all the love, blessings, and peace on this joyous day.
