The FitLabPGH team has been trying to get more creative in our culinary endeavors...and to venture out of our culinary comfort zone...We enjoy fresh oysters...in a restaurant...with experienced shuckers on staff...this week we entered new territory, ordering oysters from Island Creek Oysters (islandcreekoysters.com). As we are fans of our fingers (and don't love the sight of blood), we also ordered oyster shucking kits (consisting of oyster knives and cut-resistant gloves) from @amazon - both the shucking kits and the oysters came with "How to Shuck an Oyster" instruction cards, and Island Creek Oysters included an oyster anatomy chart and serving suggestions. The result of trying something outside of out comfort zone? An excellent meal!
For more ideas for moving out of your comfort zone, check out the @fitlabpgh podcast - we release a new episode every Sunday at www.fitlabpgh.blubrry.com (link in bio) and on Spotify - see the website for subscription options. The warm weather has arrived in Pittsburgh, and many people are getting outside for walks, runs, and bike rides. Today's message: don't head outside for your workout without proper sun protection. We all know (I hope) that we need to wear sunscreen (and a hat), but for outdoor movement sessions in peak sunlight hours, consider adding extra protection in the form of sun protection clothing that also helps keep you cool. Shown here: a long sleeve shirt and arm sleeves from the @desoto_sport Skin Cooler line. A Google search for "athletic clothing with sun protection" yields a variety of options to fit almost any style or budget. Remember: a sunburn not only damages skin, it also hinders the body's ability to cool itself. So get prepared, then get outside and get moving!
