University of Colorado Aerospace Engineering student Nate Kuczun created this incredible 1/3rd scale of the Alta 8 and its amazing! ⠀ @wanderthesunset reverse engineered the Alta 8 from our launch film and photos he found on the web, and then recreated his version of our launch film. ⠀ ⠀ Freefly has been built from the ground up by people like Nate who take an idea and apply the incredible effort and ingenuity to get it done.⠀ ⠀ Nate will be joining Freefly for a summer internship this year and we are hoping we get to test fly his Alta 2.6666666667⠀ ⠀ This might be the best internship application we have ever received!⠀ ⠀ #freeflyers#alta

When the Alta X is ripping across the sky at 75mph there is a phenomenon called 'Dissymmetry of lift'. ⠀ ⠀ This refers to the idea that the blade that is advancing in the direction of flight is seeing a speed that is equal to the rotation speed + the forward velocity. The advancing blade creates more lift than the retreating blade.⠀ ⠀ It is important for vibration and stability that lift across the rotor blade is balanced. Drones that do not use ActiveBlade will exhibit higher vibrations and lower stability. ⠀ ⠀ Our ActiveBlade design compensates for this dissymmetry by reducing the angle of attack on the advancing blade, increasing it on the retreating blade, and balancing lift across the disk.⠀ ⠀ This leads to the Alta X flying like a dream, the pilot smiling, the director complimenting, and the accountant being impressed with business growth.⠀ ⠀ Ever wonder how this tiny, crazy company in Woodinville WA comes up with this stuff? ⠀ ⠀ Hint - we do it because we are passionate about creating shots that were once impossible⠀ ⠀

MōVI Pro is watching you..... @motion24_tv rigged up this incredible setup on a tiny cable car for the UKs biggest tv soap 'Coronation Street'. They used MōVI Pro with FRX Pro and Sony fs5s with fuji 18-55 zoom lenses. Craig Porter reported that: " Working in dual op mode around 100m between the cars it held up perfectly even when we lost line of sight over the top of the mountain! a little over 8 years ago we started Freefly with the goal of creating perfectly stable images from an RC helicopter (before drones were a thing)
Eventually we achieved that goal and along the way realized that you could put handles on an aerial gimbal and create helicopter like shots on the ground. Now when we see customers like @harpycreative using our products to help create an amazing business it gives us immense pride. It is great to see our customers doing things that would have been next to impossible a decade ago. Thanks for sharing this work with us, and keep on inspiring and improving!
Did you know that the @sawblaze_battlebot team is using ARC 200's for its latest BattleBot?⠀ ⠀ You can watch them battle against last years 'most destructive' award winner RotatoR tonight on the Discovery channel at 8pm ⠀ We never imagined ARC 200 would be used on BattleBots!⠀ ⠀ Team SawBlaze had the following to say:⠀ ⠀ "We spent months before the event was even announced researching and testing motor/controller combinations like in the video below. ⠀ We selected large brushless motors designed for robotic applications that had sensors built in. These motors were roughly 2/3rds the length of our old drive motors and half the weight; That saved us 15 lbs alone in the swap and additional weight from shortening the width of the chassis. We paired these with the ARC200 motor controller from our new 2019 sponsor Freefly Systems. These controllers support closed loop control which is paramount in an aggressive brushless drivetrain. The controllers were only rated to 200A/phase so we had to increase the voltage to maintain the same power; measured performance of 9000 watts per motor!"⠀ ⠀
