A whale breaches near the Chilkat Range in Alaska. Your Shot Producer David Y. Lee (@davidylee) writes, “Great job being patient, getting ready, and anticipating a second chance at capturing this moment. Well done Kyle. I love how wide you made this frame, including the mountain range in the background which offers a fantastic sense of place.” This photo was selected for July 17, 2018 Daily Dozen.

Photo by @TimLaman. A high valley in the Lorentz National Park filled with tree ferns and limestone outcrops has a real “lost world” feel to it. I was keeping my eye out for dinosaurs, but no luck. This habitat is at about 3500 meters elevation where temperatures regularly drop to around freezing at night, even here near the equator. See @TimLaman for more from my explorations of the rarely visited alpine environment of Papua, Indonesia. #LostWorld, #Indonesia, #LorentzNationalPark, #Papua, #IndonesiaBiodiversity.

photo by @andrea_frazzetta // Cambodia, Tonle Sap lake, the Floating village of Chhnok Trou. A man crossing the village by boat at dawn.
The lake supports a massive freshwater ecosystem, which in turn supports the people who live around it in floating villages. Many of the Cambodian villagers are stateless Vietnamese immigrants. The families build floating dwellings on top of waters where citizenship papers are not required. Despite being built on the water, the floating villages operate similarly to villages on land. There are grocery stores, schools, barbers, temples. Follow @andrea_frazzetta to know more about my next projects #cambodia #floatingvillage #asia

Kayla Petering (@this.little.wandering) handed a bunch of flowers to her 3-year-old daughter and photographed what came next for #WHPflowerpower. “I love how gently she is carrying them even though they are so much bigger,” says Kayla. “It feels beautiful and powerful.” 💐

A ring-tailed lemur does an impression of one of my old college professors. .
Lemurs, unique to Madagascar, are a quintessential element of an experience on the island. We encountered several species of them in more than a half dozen community and national parks we’ve visited. This one calls Anja Community Reserve home. Here, preservation efforts have grown the lemur population from 20 to over 400 in the last two decades.

#followmeto the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt with @natalyosmann. Still no one has been able to properly explain what the true purpose of this ancient structure was, or how was it built. Did you know that this pyramid has eight sides? The centres of the four sides are slightly indented. This phenomenon is only detectable at dawn and sunset on the spring and autumn equinoxes. It is also believed that the three Pyramids of the Giza Plateau mimic the constellation of Orion, or at least used to. ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
What other mysteries about the pyramids do you know?
