I thought you guys might like to meet the mom to my future puppy This is Iris. I am on the top of her waitlist, my future Service Dog “Remi” should be coming from her this summer/fall.
I’ll give ya one guess as to who I spent my day with :) I’m sorry I haven’t updated too much on my service dog, we’re in the process of waiting for momma dog to conceive my future service dog. I have however, picked a name out!!! Presuming my pup is a girl, the name will be Remi.
This post is WAAAY overdue. I want to say thank you so so so much to the beautiful heart that is @catahoulacreations look at these beautiful custom bandanas that she made for the pups at the Assistance Service Dog Educational Center. The dogs are sooo happy to have something of their own! Along with some new leashes! Thank you!!!!
Ya’ll knew I was having surgery today. I thought I’d leave this here for you to enjoy.
“This mouth ain’t big enough for the both of us.” Hey guys! I’m going to be having surgery Tuesday to remove these third molars (wisdom teeth).
Have you had this done? Have any advice?
My dear friend @daniecoote (and company) and I took a 4 hr trek last Saturday and met a reputable dog breeder in the Los Angeles area - felt like the longest trip ever for me... buuuuttt it came with good results!! I got to meet several female dogs that are soon to be bred, and toured the facility/area to see what kind of conditions they are kept in.
The breeder was exceptional! The kennels had no feces to be seen, a truly clean environment with lots of room to run and play. Several kids and adults play and handle puppies on a daily basis, acclimating them to new sounds, smells, textures, ect. The puppies are actually kept inside the house with their Mom’s - away from the larger male dogs for their own saftey. They are kept separate from outside dogs due to health factors and both parents have had extensive clean health backgrounds.
I’m excited to tell you that I’ve placed down my deposit on what is planned to be my future service dog!
Due to an extensively long wait list at the ASDEC and a few bumps in the road, plans needed to change. This means i will be owner training my dog with the help of a completely devoted trainer to assist me. I will get to use the training I learned from the ASDEC to aid me in my journey. This will also help with bonding my “velcro dog.” The plan has changed but the purpose has not- to have a dog to alert me to panic attacks and help alleviate that suffering.
Puppy’s mom is expected to become pregnant in August(ish), arrive in October(ish) for me to bring home in December(ish)!
Exciting news to come soon?!?
Incase anyone was wondering... I’m still here! Still working towards my goal to better health and owning my own service dog sometime soon I have a lot of conflicting thoughts about this process. Its an undeniably long process, but if it helps me in the end- isn’t it worth it?
Tonight I’m currently held up in bed after a chiropractic adjustment that left me incredibly sore and in pain. Turns out my bones are really wacky and need to be straightened out. Continual adjustments will need to be made.
My anxiety levels have been stable this past week with no panic attacks- that’s a victory for me :) I will continue to update as I get more information and make more definitive decisions.
Not everyone gets to see your bad days. Not everyone will understand what you are experiencing. I understand that others “have it worse.” But I genuinely believe I deserve to have the freedom of a service dog. The freedom of knowing beforehand. So I’m not giving up. Not yet.
Alright followers! I need your help! I’m considering buying a Golden pup on my own initiative and training it myself. Currently the waiting list for the pup through ASDEC is a lot longer than i was originally told... i could be looking at another year to two years before i receive my service dog... I have been volunteering long enough I am confident I could train my own dog within that time frame, and get the bonding experience from birth forward... do you know any REPUTABLE, honest, and trustworthy breeders in the CA area? Yes, I know I could adopt- I am VERY Pro-adoption, however I am looking for a pup that has a clean bill of health and an extensive family history with one- I am trying to lessen the health issues that can come from kennels and rescues as this will not just be a pet for me, this dog needs to be able to work for a long period of time! If you know of any good breeders please message me (absolutely NO puppy-mills or any puppy-mill conditions, I need to be able to meet the parents and feel comfortable with their care.)
Nothing worth fighting for is easy.
Sooo. Many. Goldens!! I found out today that the wait for me is going to be much longer than I thought.. I’m being considered to possibly be paired with one of the puppies, but the puppies need at least another year or more of training... This process is going to be a long journey, years in the making - so you’ll have to be patient with me
