The blue washed walls of Chefchaouen's old town, in the Rif Mountains in Morocco. There are several theories about why the buildings were painted blue, including that it keeps mosquitos away, but it is widely thought to have been a tradition introduced by 15th-century Jewish refugees from Spain. A wintery scene in Oslo, Norway. Red was once the cheapest colour to produce here (throughout the late 19th and early 20th century), and many barns and other buildings across Norway were painted with red-ochre or iron-oxide paint. Others were yellow or white, colours which became symbolic of wealthier businesses. Photograph by @madalina.b_

A shot of the magnificent crimson staircase at Livraria Lello, a bookshop in Porto, Portugal – one of the oldest in the country. Opened by brothers José and António Lello in 1906, it also features a stained glass ceiling and a neo-gothic facade. It is thought to be the bookshop that inspired the Hogwarts' library from Harry Potter by JK Rowling, who lived in Porto in the 1990s. Photograph by Neema Okal @adventuresofanafricandutchess

King’s College chapel in Cambridge, UK was built in stages between 1446 and 1515, and is an example of perpendicular gothic English architecture, characterised by strong vertical lines, where windows and architectural elements appear to point upwards. By photographer Paul Whitbread @aubade_creative

It’s certainly bobble hat season around most of the UK this week. This picture of a cosy looking figure was captured by @staszeku, at low tide on Leven beach in Fife, in the heart of Tay Country, Scotland .

Bolivia’s indigenous Aymara and Quechua women, known as 'cholitas', are recognisable from their braided hair, bowler hats and full skirts. Once marginalised and discriminated against, they are a rising force in modern Bolivia, reclaiming their image, and meeting weekly to wrestle, WWE style. Photograph by @roam.magazine

Golden light hits a San Francisco cable car. This vehicle is part of the world's last manually operated cable car system, with 23 different lines built between 1873 and 1890, but only three remaining to this day. Car 51 was among those documented as being used in the protests of 1954, when citizens rallied against the mayor's call to get rid of city’s cable cars. Photograph by Jason Dubs @apollo.dubs
