“There’s no doubt that today’s young people face enormous challenges. Still, the data tells us that they’re healthier, better educated, and have greater potential than any group of young people that’s come before—and I’m willing to bet that the generation that will transform the world into a better, more equal place has already been born. ” – @melindafrenchgates #Goalkeepers18

“Rains are heavier now, the forest is greener, the undergrowth is thicker and the predators are stealthier,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Mainak Ray. “A late evening hide and seek with this beauty from the woods of southern India.”

“This is so awesome Mainak. I am glad you were using a 500mm lens, because at least you have the safety of distance between you and the tiger because I love the intensity of its stare, I feel it watching me. I love that it is partially hidden behind the vegetation, I feel myself being stalked. And then I wonder, are there other tigers in the forest that I can't see who are also tracking my movements...” — @natgeoyourshot Producer David Y. Lee (@davidylee)

My mood of the day from Dagestan, Russia (small republic where I was born). This is Khunzhakh region. While driving there I was imagining how probably long time ago the famous Dagestani poet Rasul Gamzatov was running here as a kid. I used his poem for the video from Dagestan in the previous post. Will tell you more about him in the next posts. Here we also met an amazing family of our talented photographer friend: @shamilgadzhidadaev.

Can we broaden our view...even within a country?
.
We continue our #overtourism series this week by sharing some ways travelers can help combat this problem while also having better travel experiences themselves.
.
Tip #3: Visit secondary cities and regions. .
We understand the draw of wanting to visit popular destinations, marquee cities, and iconic regions. As you plan and move about, consider the less well-known or “secondary” cities and regions in or near the destination you have in mind. These may offer you a similar experience — and sometimes even a more genuine and local one — compared to the marquee destination, but with fewer crowds and often at a lower cost.
.
For example, Tuscany and the Val D'Orcia typically steal much of the limelight in the region — and for good reason, we admit. (We were married there nearly 18 years ago.) However, consider the Tuscan sub-region of Maremma. The area is less well known on the tourist trail (we learned of it thanks to a blogger living in Florence), but it features some incredibly beautiful hill towns like Pitigliano (pictured here). .
So which secondary city or region in a popular country are you curious about or have considered, but you haven’t yet taken the leap? What's keeping you? Let’s talk it out.
.
Bonus: if we've been there, we'll offer some ideas and advice.
