Since graduating from IU I’ve been working as a social worker, first as a visit supervisor and now as a foster care consultant with a non-profit. These jobs have encouraged so much growth, both personally and professionally. I’m extremely proud of the foster kids I work with every day. They come from abuse, neglect, and dysfunctional homes. Yet, somehow, these kids show kindness, love, and maturity beyond their age. Today is “Wear Blue” day; a day meant to raise awareness for child abuse prevention. There are currently 8,600 children in foster care in Kentucky alone. Those involved in social work are trying to chip away at that number every day. How can you help? Become a foster parent. Be a respite home. Donate money to a local organization. Donate supplies to the state or an agency. Be a social worker. Volunteer with agencies such as CASA. Every little bit helps take care of kids in need.
I’ve been spoiled the last couple months and was able to work from home while my company moved to a new office. That meant lunch dates, lots of chatting, and getting to co-work with my favorite person. This is just to say I’m gross and miss Carly and wish I could bring her to work with me every day. #wcw#itsonlybeentwodays
Yes, we celebrate Pippin’s birthday every year. Yes, we bought her a balloon, toys, and a container for her homemade treats. Yes, we used chicken to bribe her to pose for this photo. No, we don’t have a problem.
Happy birthday to my hippo-loving sister, @kktoday! I can’t wait to throw dodgeballs at you next weekend!
