Cast on this easy ribbed mitt about a week and a half ago and just completed the first mitt. Took me a little time to remember how to knit in the round on DPNs but the muscle memory quickly came back 😅 Also, easy project to learn how to knit an afterthought thumb; gave me confidence to tackle an afterthought heel on my next socks (maybe...). Anyhow, fun easy pattern, and great use of some stash yarn from @independencestreetyarn. 😁 . . Pattern: October Fingerless Mitts by @mountaincolorsyarn (free on Ravelry) Yarn: @independencestreetyarn Classic Sweater in Vintage Santa
Learned something new tonight: drop spindle spinning (is that the correct phrase?). Met @ben_the_holladay, too (after two years of IG friendship)!😁@fancyjaime is a good and patient instructor for all of us newbie spinners 😊 Now, to practice more (this was the only photo I took prior to the start of class, heheh).
Got to attend a complimentary cooking class last night! @empoweredkitchen showed us how to cook delicious and healthy foods (yum, veggie tart!), and I learned quite a bit of tricks that I didn’t know about before (sshhh, don’t tell my dad I wasn’t paying attention to when he cooks for us...😅). Maybe I’ll finally get cooking again after being spoiled by @_rkane’s cooking these past four years 🤓😝
Ends weaved in! I originally received this yarn and tutorial at @weknitcolorado’s retreat in 2017 (it was a mini tutorial demo at the retreat, and I didn’t attend the demo). . . . Back then, I didn’t really have much knowledge in colorwork charts or double knitting in general. The cast-on was tripping me up, too...until @mandybeeknits recently released some very helpful (and quick!) IGTV tutorials on how to double knit. . . . As you can see, the first tag (on the left), I messed up slightly with the colorwork chart...oops! That teaches me to multi-task when reading charts 😂 The second tag went much better. Once I figured out how to hold the yarn, the pattern was easy-peasy 💪🏼 This was a good mini project to work on to get myself comfortable with the idea of double knitting. . . . Have you tried double knitting before?
After feeling super FOMO last weekend (and also reminding myself of my abundant yarn stash) regarding Yarn Along the Rockies, I decided this past Thursday that I’d treat myself to my own mini yarn crawl (and also start shopping for Christmas gifts). I abstained for five days—good for me! So a little break doesn’t hurt 😅 . . On Friday, I visited the three Denver shops: @lambshoppe_denver, @fancytigercrafts, and @yarnshoppe_denver. Then, yesterday, Ryan and I took a trip up north so that we could not only get his new camera repaired, but also hit up a few yarn shops there, too (@longmontyarnshoppe, @maverick.fiber.arts, and @fingerplaystudio). We also had dinner with friends up north, so we just made a day out of yesterday. . . So! Here’s my haul from my custom crawl: hat kit from Bags by CAB and a really fun unicorn-like, funfetti-like colorway from Araucanía Yarns 😍; @independencestreetyarn minis from Fingerplay Studio (one of Michelle’s minis was actually from the Colorado Makers Retreat goody bag, so I just needed four minis to complete the set for the Playday Hat 😎) and a Tunisian crochet hook from Longmont Yarn Shoppe; and the final photo is of some yarn for Christmas gifts—hence, black and white. 😁 . . Also randomly ran into @dorianowen at Longmont Yarn Shoppe 😜 Small world! . . . #independencestreetyarn
After spending part of the morning/early afternoon out at Elitch Gardens with Ryan, am now spending a little time blocking some hats (they’re sure to dry pretty fast in the sun) and crocheting my Butterfly Effect Shawl (wonderful pattern by my pal @dorianowen!) with two skeins of @yarnbaby Splendid 🤩 Am close to finishing the first skein with a couple more repeats of the shawl left. 😊
In case you missed my IG story (no worries!), Ryan and I hiked Mount Bierstadt about a week ago. Our first 14er to hike—and we learned afterwards that it really isn’t one of the easier 14ers 🤣 Anyhow, I cover some teachable moments from the experience over on my blog: visit the link in my bio to read my post 😁
My (one!!!) current WIP: Tamara Kelly (aka @mooglyblog)’s Quicksilver Shawlette crocheted in @retoldyarns’s “Put Some Windex On It” and “Never Tell Me the Odds” in Singles DK. Project bag by @auroratalksknit for Bliss Box Yarn Club. I love the stitch definition with this base, and the blue hues of the colorway really pop in this pattern 😍
First time to complete two-at-a-time socks 😁 I enjoyed this KAL since it taught me some new skills (thanks to @auroratalksknit’s excellently thorough video tutorials). I admit, I’m not a fan of 1) tall socks AND 2) striped socks, so the colors I chose and the length of the socks suit me very well. Will be knitting more socks two-at-a-time from this point forward 🤩 Yarn by @independencestreetyarn: Interstellar Cinderella, Michigan Sky, and Vegan Cake.
