Do you OUTSOURCE your EDITING as a Wedding Photographer?? Outsourcing can be a godsend to some because of the timesaving benefits… but to others, it doesn't have the ROI (return on investment) to make sense. Where do you fall? I would LOVE to hear! …
Me? I've always been a DIY EDITOR for TWO reasons:
ONE: I actually ENJOY the editing process! I never WANTED to give it up because I LIKE doing it - almost as much as the shooting itself! Call me CRAZY - and I know it can be tedious at times, but for me, the editing process is how I complete my artistic vision. I LOVE the creative control of editing what I captured.
TWO: When I was first starting out, it took me SEVERAL wedding seasons to grow my business, built up my prices and make enough INCOME to fully RECOVER from QUITTING my full-time job (and losing my employer-paid health insurance for our family) + the investment of new lenses/equipment, a better website, updated software, all while you’re trying to pump as much MONEY into marketing and advertising as possible... ...
So OUTSOURCING wasn't an option that made SENSE for me. I didn't have that financial freedom to pay hundreds of $'s per wedding for someone else to do my editing nor did I really want to…
BUT being a DIY Editor while running a wedding photography business can take a lot of TIME! And if you do your own editing, you know what I’m talking about!
How do you manage it all?? For me? Over the years, I've learned how to streamline my process to be able to save time and make it all work. I can edit my full wedding galleries and still turn them around within a week after shooting them because I have perfected a system to make it happen.
If you’re backlogged with your own editing I would love to SHARE my SECRETS with YOU! Head on over to my bio to learn more…
And if you're a DIY Editor that makes it happen, I would LOVE to CONNECT with you!
I’m being real when I say, we have absolutely no plans for this Saturday yet. I’m by no means in a panic, but I thought maybe you could help out. Should we A: work on some at-home projects like re-staining our deck and fence B: cap off a strenuous day of hiking or biking with a movie night or C: head to a local winery to enjoy the afternoon while our son gets some Mamaw and Papaw time?? OR…is there an option D? Help a sister/brother out! What's your vote?

To me, the BEST part of #springweddings are the floral backdrops! They can take an already magical day and somehow turn it into a real-life fairy tale. LOVE is in BLOOM this time of year and if you're lucky enough to be capturing a wedding day this weekend... Cheers to you, my friend! Don't forget to stop and smell those gorgeous blooms!
There is plenty in my life that I’m satisfied with, but there’s always more I can strive for. That something might be in my business, my relationships, or my personal growth, and today I want more. I want more collaborations that take my business to the next level, more date nights and more travel. I know none of this is going to change overnight, but I’m sharing out loud on social media, to give me an extra push into making good on this. What about you, friend, what do you want more of??
Where are my fellow entrepreneurs out there?!?! Keep on fighting, friends! I believe in YOU!
Do you have any FUN TRIPS planned for this summer? My parents recently purchased a beach house on the Gulf of Mexico and they're generous enough to let us enjoy it with them! It's about a 9.5 hour drive from where we live, but it will be well worth the family time. We just scheduled our trip for June once our son is out of school and I cannot wait for the time away! A beach photoshoot is, of course, in store!! Where are you planning on going this summer??
When we’re on the brink of spring, I love to welcome the season by taking my family to our local nursery and picking out some exciting new fruits and veggies to plant in our garden. We typically enjoy a beautiful harvest of sweet potatoes, tomatoes, blackberries, and peppers, but we haven’t had much luck with cantaloupe or watermelon the past few years. What do you do to enjoy the start of spring?
How do you make time for your relationship? One thing I enjoy is that my husband and I have a little lunch date almost every day of the week. While our son is in school my husband comes home for lunch and we get one hour of uninterrupted, adult conversation... we would otherwise be lacking! It helps to take a break from our craziness and spend lunchtime together. For #nationalmakelunchcountday today, we decided to spice it up and make #breakfastforlunch! It might sound a little crazy to make LUNCH special by turning it into BREAKFAST, but hey, we're making it count and at least we are doing it together! How are you #makinglunchcount today?
Almost 8 years ago when I started my wedding photography business, there were certainly more than a few obstacles to overcome. But here I am, still standing, and laughing my head off at one of my favorite early memories. A newbie to the wedding vendor world, I went to my first big bridal expo and soon realized that my SLIDESHOW of portfolio photos wasn’t making the brides line up at my booth like I had planned! I still remember seeing the sister of one of my friends there and she asked me where my albums and prints were and then the lightbulbwent off. I had forgotten a very important detail. ♀️ Remembering, though, keeps me grounded and humble. You never know where greatness might be thrust upon you. Sometimes it’s easy to hide behind embarrassments, but I’m proud of what they made me become.
Since it's #nationalpetday, I have a fitting question for my dog-loving friends out there... What made you decide it was time to have a dog join your family? ...
Don't get me wrong, we love our cat, Nala, to pieces! She has been with us for almost 11 years and our son absolutely adores her... She tolerates his love and overly-eager affection, but most days she gives him this blinking look as if she's saying, "Leave me alone. I've only been napping for 8 hours and I'm only getting started." My husband and I have been debating whether or not it's time to give our five-year-old son a furry playmate. Afterall, his birthday wish this year was that Nala had hands so she could play with him. GAH!! Cue my heart breaking into a million little pieces. What made you decide it was time for a puppy?
