V4 from last week at the end of our session. I wanted to just start it to get a feel, and make it my problem for this week. Ended up just finishing it on my first attempt, which was nice, bc I almost ate shit 4 times. Love the routes outta this cave. #senderone #bouldering

“When I first took one of Hunter’s Kinstretch classes, I realized that EVERY PERSON, no matter what fitness background they have, should take these classes. I’m a fitness instructor and I have applied all my learnings to my everyday routine. I’m feeling all the benefits after every Kinstretch session that I do! If you’re reading this, I am urging you to try one class and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about!”- Kim Y, KINSTRETCH student in Long Beach, CA

I want to thank a moment to thank anyone who’s been to any of my classes either in person, or remotely via my online KINSTRETCH.

It’s been a year since I started classes in Long Beach, CA and am baffled by how quickly that year went.

It’s amazing to see my personal little community grow over time but also see the global KINSTRETCH community grow daily.

If you’re reading this, and haven’t tried class yet, see if there is a provider near you.

On www.kinstretch.com you can see if there are any classes in your area.

If not, check out the find a provider option over at www.functionalanatomyseminars.com and get some one on one attention from a FRC coach in your neighborhood.

Still nothing? There are more online options popping up regularly to try out virtual classes. Do your research and see what’s a best fit for you.

See what all the hype is about. Most people have forgotten how GOOD they can feel. It’s not too late to start taking care of those joints.

I’m just here to help Christina (and my other athletes) “make shit work nice.”

If, said athlete, takes hip that now works nice, and uses it to choke out other humans- I am simultaneously impressed with her and concerned for her opponents. 😂🙌🏼

Yesterday I re-posted a short clip of my mobility training session with @hunterfitness . The focus was hip external rotation, and in the video, we capped off the training in an externally rotated and hip flexed position.
.
In the video above, you can see the direct translation of active mobility in the same externally rotated, hip flexed position.
.
Create workspace within the joint capsule -> develop strength through the end range -> achieve a usable range of motion directly applicable for your sport -> mobility expression

We’re at it again. Let’s recap:

Make a better human. Then make a monster athlete.

A conversation I had with @coach_christinamarie when she first hired me. When we assessed- regardless of the fact that she was a jiu jitsu athlete- we had to reestablish normal human joint function first. We had to clear closing angle pain. We had to make sure her joints had a good workspace.

Skipping this step, as many do, won’t go well in the long run. You can’t take a hip joint that has abberant joint function (pain on the closing angle) and just tell people “just load it- it’s fine.” (It’s not fine- and You’re making it harder for this client to progress.)

Read that last paragraph again.

Yes- loading is necessary- just don’t skip steps.

Which leads us here. We created a human. Now we make her a monster. Time to upgrade physical capacity until she’s a force to be reckoned with. ** Edit: MORE of a force to be reckoned with.

The road to black belt continues. 🥋

Yesterday’s training session ended with loading strategies with an eccentric-only focus. We have taken a combo of end range hip external rotation combined with hip flexion and we’re eccentrically loading with a combination of bodyweight, external load, and band resistance.

Christina went to jiu jitsu after this (like I said- I’m working with a monster athlete here)- and text me: “Hips are feeling better than ever. Seriously. Best ever. Even managed some guard retention stuff I’ve never done.”

Thank you for your effort, Christina. Jiu jitsu people out there- pay attention. 👊🏼

Where do you place more armor?
-
Think before answering....
-
In WW2 this was the schematic representation of “damage” sustained by returning fighter jets. The decision was made that more armor needed to be placed where the jets sustained the most damage
-
But a statistician named Abraham Wald disagreed. These were the planes that RETURNED. So all they knew was where the planes could sustain the most damage and argued for more armor in the areas NOT shot
-
This is why our eyes can play tricks on us during assessments. Nothing is linear. Just because we think we know the structure of something does not mean we know the function or vice versa. Nor are the two dependent on each other at all
-
Use your assessments combined with listening, educating and empowering. It is the stuff we don’t see that often has the biggest implications 👊🏼

💥We are over 50% sold 💥 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Register NOW to save your spot 👉 FunctionalAnatomySeminars.com ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On the heels of the Inaugural Summit, where we explored the advanced rotational progressions of FRS — examining the science behind the practical application of CARs, both as an assessment and substantial training tool — our next FRS Summit will dive much deeper into the linear progressions of the system including PAILs/RAILs, End-Range Training and the vast expanse of science and practical application of creating load based intervention to push microevolution. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▫️Topics to be covered include that we’ll cover:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• The physiology of load: What is actually happening?
• Understanding entropy, the 2nd law of Thermodynamics, and why they matter to the process of physical adaptation.
• Scaling load to create necessary tissue or neural adaptations.
• End-Range Control (Revisited).
• Advanced End-Range Training - loading options to cultivate deeper capacities.
• The art of skillful programming of load or physical stress.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The weekend will be full of interesting lectures, as well as practical sessions that will provide a greater depth to your understanding of Functional Range Systems. Further to the great feedback you’ve read about in our Mastermind Group – the Summit will present 3 days of new lecture material that is not covered in other seminars.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In addition, we will have some amazing social events (🏄‍♀️ 🏄 🌊) , our Saturday night dinner/party and a variety of outside activities planned. It won’t all be indoors!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Summit will be held Friday May 31, 2019 – Sunday June 2, 2019 in Costa Mesa, California at Innovative Results.

Yes- loading is necessary- just don’t skip steps.

Lucky for Christina- she has been working HARD for close to a year both with myself (on the training side of things) and @drlocrao (on the therapy side of things - the missing component for people with closing angle pain.)

Which leads us here. We created a human. Now we make her a monster. Time to upgrade physical capacity until she’s a force to be reckoned with. ** Edit: MORE of a force to be reckoned with.

The road to black belt continues. 🥋

One set here (about 8-9 min long) cut down to a minute for the gram.

Stealing a portion of @jquintnmt ’s caption:

Algorithm (below) that produces progress (increased physical capacities) without unnecessary pain:
.
1️⃣Determine physical capacities.
2️⃣Program training within those capacities.
3️⃣Program additional work to expand capacities where desired/needed.
4️⃣Repeat.
