#Repost from @sarahmatchenyoga for #modificationmonday
I have always struggled with backbends. Some days I think I need to work on “opening my heart” more in both the physical and emotional sense, but other days I think that’s a load of BS (sshh, don’t tell my chakra 🤫) — maybe this is just my body.
So now what? ♀
I bring awareness to my posture on and off the mat, and integrate backbends into my practice that are accessible to my body, such as Cobra, Sphinx/Seal and Supported Fish. I also just recently tried Bow Pose with a bolster, shown here, and it made a huge difference to have that support under my belly.
You will probably never see me in full spinal extension, and that is perfectly fine with me. We may not be able to do everything, but we can always do something.

Improve your flexibility & yoga practice in seconds by using blocks!!!!
I love to use blocks in my yoga practice for so many different reasons. They bring the ground closer to you so you can feel an amazing stretch, help increase flexibility, and most importantly reduce injury!! Here are 10 poses you can try right now with a block!
Half Moon Pose
Low Lunge Twist
Intense Side Stretch Pose
Vinyasa (Chatturanga to Upward Dog to Downward Dog)
Seated Forward Fold
Blocks can make these poses more restorative, more challenging and most importantly: feel how the pose is supposed to!! Don’t just accept that you feel pain or discomfort in a certain area of your body - learn to modify!! Which pose would you try?! Is there another pose you like to use blocks in? Let’s chat in the comments below! Xo Melis
What's your favorite way to use your yoga blocks?
For your hands in trikonasana? Between your upper thighs in uttanasana? Underneath your computer monitor to raise the height?

FACES OF IYOGAPROPS #4
Introducing our newest team member and Social Media Co-ordinator, Hannah Strout.
Hannah is a creative producer with a passion for animals (especially her cat, Dr. Professor), board games, spreadsheets, and power clashing patterns and colours.
Before moving to Melbourne and joining the Iyogaprops team, Hannah worked in Sydney developing and managing artistic programs for young people and emerging artists.
Outside of Iyogaprops, Hannah regularly attends @yarravilleyogacentre, manages @crackxfestival, and works with artists around Australia to produce arts and cultural events.
Although she is yet to do much exploring in Victoria, Hannah is an avid hiker and just last year spent 9 days on the Overland Track in Tasmania. Drop your best hiking suggestions for her in the comments.
It also just happens to be her birthday today - HAPPY BIRTHDAY HANNAH!
