First day of hiking on our Christmas trip to the pnw to see my fam. Pool of the Winds and Hamilton Mountain. Hiked up into some snow! We woke up early and were the first up on the trails. It was pretty cold but the light and cloud cover were beautiful.
Got back to the car before it started raining too! #nature #pnw #hiking

The Berthe Morisot Passport to Paris event was fantastic. The exhibit was stunning and I can’t wait to go back for another look (bringing along as many people as I can because everyone needs to see it!). I was very pleased that they kept the focus of the exhibit entirely on Morisot and her work. Too often accomplished women of the past are interpreted through their relationships with the men in their lives. Often simply because history has been decidedly male oriented and that’s one of the only ways we can piece things together sometimes unfortunately. Thankfully for Morisot that was not the case. She somehow managed to make an incredible mark on history while maintaining her reputation in “polite” society. A rare feat if you really think about it. At the time of her death she had created around 800 paintings, yet her death certificate listed her with “no occupation”. Unbelievable. I’m glad that she is getting the worldwide recognition she’s always deserved. I posted some of my favorite pieces from the exhibit. I can’t pick an ultimate favorite yet, maybe after another look but I’m doubtful. I got a particular joy from the piece entitled “Hide and Seek” in the plain black frame surrounded by all the others in ornate gold. Much of her subject matter revolves around seeing the beauty in the everyday and “mundane” aspects of life. It was refreshing to see one of her paintings in a plain frame. It made it more intimate for me personally. #art #latergram #impressionism #thebarnesfoundation
