That’s my Ma in the middle a proud Ngapuhi woman. Either side are her dear friends Marie and Kath. I’m pretty sure this is their Auckland Uni grad ball. Today marks 125 years since the women’s vote was won through the tireless efforts of the Suffragists in NZ. The Auckland University Faculty of Science are honouring my mother, Dr. Dorothy Urlich Cloher posthumously by naming the School of Environment after her. Academic life wasn’t easy for Mum, she came up against a lot of barriers as women often did. Today I pay tribute to Dot 💪🏽 Proud my mother wanted respect more than love. Kia Kaha.
Dark Art. One of the few live takes caught in Greg Walker’s studio when we were recording my last album in Jumbunna, Gippsland late 2016. Looking forward to playing some of the quieter tunes on tour in the next couple of weeks and digging into some of my earlier records too. I play at the @redrattlertheatre this Thursday night in Marrickville, Sydney with @tiny_ruins and the Manly Boat Shed on Friday for a special show Peter O’Doherty & Reg Mombassa are curating. Darren Hanlon after a big slice of blackberry pie in Portland. He’s spent a good few years traveling around Australia talking to the songwriters, their families and friends to compile ‘Buried Country’ an 11 song LP and 36 page colour (LP sized) booklet with rare photos and interviews with the artists. There’s tunes from Dougie Young, Maisie Kelly, The Kooriers and more. You can order via Mississippi Records in the States and Flippin Yeah Records in Australia. Cover art is by Vincent Namatjira and is an image of his father Mr Kunmanara (Jimmy) Pompey. All proceeds go to the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation #alwayswasalwayswillbeaboriginalland#flippinyeahrecords#mississipirecords

Had a chat with the excellent Portia Sabin from @killrockstarsofficial when I was in Portland, Oregon a couple weeks back. It was cool to talk with another label manager about the rewards and challenges of releasing independent music. You can listen to the full interview via the link in my bio or just search ‘The Future of What’ wherever you listen to your podcasts @milkrecords#futureofwhat#killrockstars#milkrecords
Backstage at @theemptybottle_ in Chicago with the legendary Jess Hopper 🏆 We had a chat about longevity in the music biz and how getting older can be an excellent thing 👌🏼 you can read the interview @thecreativeindependent or via the link in my bio.
When @bonessloane@sholaki@courtneymelba and I were in Chicago a couple weeks back we dropped by @audiotree for a live session. They really took care of us and it was a fun time. You can watch it in full via the link in my bio 🌲👻🌲👻
