NOT MY EMBROIDERY, but last week I delivered my pillow cobbling efforts on these three pillows to my mom who will be gifting them as a house warming present for someone who lives on Cape Cod. I think the motifs she picked to embroider are spot-on for their forever home, and I’m amazed she can do the work she does with the arthritis she contends with these days. All three were sewn on my great grandmother’s #singerfeatherweight (zipper installation included) and I used #aurifil thread for sewing up everything since I knew it would hold up to the heavy canvas my mom picked for the backing. Was worried about the French seams I had to do on these and the Featherweight being able to handle the bulk, but Adela was champ and sewed through them like a hot knife through butter (especially shocking given the fronts are made of corduroy where my embroidered on the reverse side)! #sewingwiththeoldies #vintagesewingmachinesdoitall #kindofwishicouldhavekeptthegullformyselfthough #stillneedtoproperlylearnhowtomakepillowcoversoneofthesedays

TBT to one of my favorite DIY projects—a Sunflower mug rug in the shape of a sunflower using Kate Spain’s sunflower print in blue and pink for my daughter’s kindergarten grade teacher last year. My vintage Bernina 830 Record was still working well when I tackled this zigzag stitch heavy project, but she’s in need of a cold plate fix to her pedal to correct her throttle shutting off when it overheats—which I hope soon to have repaired because I miss stitching on her. #bernina125 #sweepstakes #happyanniversarybernina #mineisnamedjoy

Not sure what he was planning to do with my seam ripper before he fell asleep. Probably something no good involving picking the door handle on the pantry closet where his food bag is kept... #crapquiltingassistant #alwaysasleeponthejob #andontheprojectineedtoworkon

Really, @instagram? Can you go one week without breaking something around here? Folks, if you have instructed anyone to click a link in your profile today to access a blog post or other goodies, it will not be clickable. #lesigh #thisiswhywecanthavenicethingsig #welcometoy2ktechnology

If anyone needs some summer sewing plans, you need to head over to @wholecirclestudio to sign up for her newsletter to get the details for this foundation paper piecing pattern and join in on @misterdomestic’s quiltalong that’s starting later this month with Sheri’s Patchwork Petal blocks! Gorgeous curves done in FPP? Sold! Everyone should try it at least once! These were so fun to make and a privilege to pattern test for an awesome pattern designer and an awesome, newly designed fabric line. Mine will eventually be quilted up into pillows and backed with some luscious Loved To Pieces prints! But loving my seasonal treatment on the fronts with Quilting Treasures’s Ombré Stitches—such a great quality cotton and the colors are amazing!#gojointhefppparty #fppisbetterwithfriends #ihearmathewthrowsthebestparties #therewillbegiggles #patchworkpetalsquilt

I think it’s official—I can’t make a trip to @theboltquiltshop without coming home with @aurifilthread and @carolynfriedlander fabrics. But who could resist Polk on @robertkaufman Essex Homespun Linen? See! Plus, I need the appliqué 80wt goodness for the eventual Botanics project, so I HAD to get the thread too. The Brillo metallic thread order I placed was totally a necessity too—I swear. That’s the story, and I’m sticking to it! #ireallycanquitanytime #ohwhoamikidding #icantquityou #eitherofyou

Appliqué and autocross were a success! May only have managed to get half the bursts basted before this morning, and due to an overcast day, totally neglected to put on sunscreen even though I know better so feeling a little itchy/face burned, but actually sewed down one burst and got another second place trophy (which I honestly didn’t think was going to happen given how many cones I killed today)! #butatleastididntdragamyoffthecourse #hubbytookcareofthatforourteamthough #lolahasafatassthatishardtothreadthroughsomeneedles #prettysadtoadmitforasewist

Prepping some appliqué for autocross for Monday stitching. So glad to have a @daylightcompany duo lamp clamped onto the sewing table in the living room so I can baste some bursts while watching some TV. #becauseeveryonestitchesbetweenlapsright #whataretheoddsthebastingwillgetdoneintimethough #playdateandsoloviewingontapfortomorrowtoo

Having a very productive rainy weekend while #missingmarket. Managed to finally box up textile goodies destined to be gifted to a talented sewist down south, cut up about ten pairs of beyond-saving jeans to get them prepped for later upcycling, buried some threads in hubby’s Cabana quilt so I can move to the next section of quilting, and then basted a mini out of my Sun Salutations trimmings. Now I’m just about wrapping up the basting of my Stone Slice mini quilt test top, which will have to wait to start to be quilted as I placed a thread order for more #aurifil variegated goodness because 12+ solids wasn’t enough to get the effect I want. 😂 You can see the big version of the Stone Slice that’s actually on display at Quilt Market in Windham Fabric’s booth over at @wholecirclestudio’s IG post today. Guess it’s a rockin’ good day to take a chunk out of the projects list! #textureringstocome #mayhavebeenanexcusetobuymorethread #shouldprobablyfinallybuyathreadrack

Not too shabby for only being able to get four runs in due to rain and an early work shift! #happymothersdaytome #greatstarttotheseason #thiswillbefilledwithginlatertonight

Happy Mother’s Day to the U.S. folks! I’m celebrating with a day at the races—well, at the autocross race! Hey, Moms drive free, which is all right by me. Having some seat time in Lola after a year off. Been too long. #505hpbeast #hopingtherainholdsoff #therewillbesewinglaterthough #andcheesecake

Still working on that secret sewing—which is almost done, but can’t be shared for a spell. However, that doesn’t preclude me from shopping for the next phase of the secret sewing—backing material! When I found out that Jane at @theboltquiltshop had some of @misterdomestic’s fabulous new fabrics in stock, I had to see (and grab) some in person—sooooo wasn’t disappointed!!! This Anthonem Festive is the perfect companion for my Ombre Stitches that I have been secretly sewing with and it feels AH-MAY-ZING! Like, Liberty of London LAWN amazing! I now want summery tank tops out of this whole line... but that will have to wait! #artgalleryfabrics #quiltingtreasuresfabrics #ombrestitches #misterdomesticcultivatedthebestgarden #lovedtopieces
