Cheetah Outreach at the Strand in Firgrove, Stellenbosch, sponsored by Spier Wines... The Center is home for numerous cheetahs and other endangered smaller African predators. Unique to the center lose their out reach program with farmers in Namibia and Botswana where the center promotes the cohabitation of farm dogs and cheetahs. This very successful program has brought new hope to a dwindling population of cheetahs while teaching tolerance to the farmers who were their greatest enemy previously.
When it's time to try a white Bourgogne it's time to try something else a bit unusual...delicate Italian hand made pasta, turmeric garlic roasted cauliflower, toasted with more garlic and wine to accompany some lovely shrimp...color, contrast, richness. Oh and the wine...buttery, oaked, while still fresh with citrus highlights. A win win for the evening
Tokara greets you with art that is drawn from the people who live and toil across these mountainsides. Like the views from their expansive windows and verandas the natural world of mountains, vine and olive covered slopes blend into the villages and world of the people below, stretching out all the way to Table Mountain hanging above Cape Town on the horizon.
Tokara wine farm, olive groves, tasting room and restaurant, a small piece of paradise. A treat for the whole palate with its expansive views from their restaurant and an art filled environment to remind your soul that each sip of wine should enhance your world. You feel as if the world could pass by at your feet without you even taking notice...I certainly forgot it with a glass of their 2013 Directors Reserve in my hand...
On the Strand Beach Western Cape South Africa. A short drive from Stellenbosch and the heart of wine making in South Africa. Virtually all of South African wine is made with the tempering winds coming off the Atlantic and the joining of the Indian Ocean to the west, south and southeast. Unique winds created by the joining of those two oceans creates predictable weather conditions that optimize the growing season for many varieties. Never underestimate South African wines… I think will be seeing a lot more of them on the best tables of the world.
Another Thursday in south Africa… Delaire Graff... From one of the premier jewelers in all the world balanced wonderful selection of white and red… With the incomparable backdrop of the mountains above Stellenbosch.
Standing atop Lionshead Mountain Cape Town South Africa. In the far background oval island is the infamous Robben Island what Nelson Mandela spent 26 years along with much of the leadership of the AMC, PAC and other anti-apartheid forces. The days were spent in hard labor of breaking rocks into gravel. President Mandela complaint for the remainder of his life of the damage done to his eyes from the sharp particles in the dust that damaged his and many other eyes. This photo faces west second photo faces east toward Table Mountain, use below include Bantry Bay and Camps Bay with its beautiful beaches.
