Image by @joelsartore | This gray mouse lemur at the @DukeLemurCenter is named ‘Buckwheat’, and he's tiny, weighing the same as 32 pennies. He went from having a broken foot during in his first week of life to becoming a supermodel.
These tiny primates can develop symptoms of neurological disorders similar to Alzheimer’s in humans. Because lemurs are so genetically close to us, studying them can prove very promising for neurological aging research. Recently, non-invasive research on these little creatures has led to a new Alzheimer’s hypothesis that could help identify humans at risk before they develop symptoms and possibly delay onset and progression of the disease.

Photo by @danwestergren // #sponsored by @visit_arizona // The setting sun casts an incredible glow over post thunderstorm clouds in Arizona’s Monument Valley. I arrived one afternoon at Oljato-Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in an absolute downpour. I had received a call from my Navajo guide telling me that the scheduled sunset drive through the park was cancelled. “They’ve closed the road because it’s turned to mud,” he told me on the phone. Deciding to drive to the park anyway, I waited out the pouring rain and was treated to an unbelievable light-show as the clouds broke up just in time for sunset. // Even once you see it in person, you may still doubt it’s real. Plan your [un]real Arizona getaway. #VisitArizona

Exploring Time: Savannah Dusk | Photograph by Mattieu Rivart (@matthieu.rivart.official)

“Photographs have a special relationship with time. The very process of making an image involves time exposures of shorter or longer durations – and the end result is a moment of time,” writes @natgeo photographers Diane Cook and Len Jenshel (@cookjenshel). “For our Your Shot assignment we want you to delve into describing the idea or concept of time. We are looking for images that encapsulate time, defining what a particular hour of the day looks like, tells a story about time, or captures a moment of time that clearly shows what life looks like at - say midnight, or 5:00AM, or noon. With clarity, coherence, and a point of view, show us a segment of life that defines a specific time, in the cycle of a 24-hour day.
.
The goal of this assignment is to publish a final story, with a full 24 hours in the life of our Your Shot community. What moment, scene, or activity tells us what a particular hour of the day look like? How do you frame it, what details are important to include?”

This image by photographer @beverlyjoubert of the Klipgat cave is a view of an ancient cavern within Grootbos Nature Preserve. The cave was formed millions of years ago by the power of erosion that was caused by underwater aquifers, rising sea levels and the force of pounding waves. #photooftheweek #cave #erosion #nature
