It’s darker than it appears and some A-holes are already blasting. Must be feeling the pressure of having NO DEER for #deerseason2017 ..... sunrise isn’t for another 20 minutes. Morons shooting at shadows. Me, I’m out here seeing what I can see on the last weekend of gun season, already got mine (2) in the freezer.
No deer past the ground blind this morning. I was about to get out and do my ground stalk when this happened. Rafter of young hens hanging out in front of my blind this morning. Looking for food and not having much luck. They’ve wandered back and forth in front of me a few times. Stayed stationary so they wouldn’t sound the alarm. #deerseason2017
Thursday when I put up a screenshot on FB of our text conversation, I received a snarky text from my wife once she saw my post, which I found amusing...... So in true asshole fashion, I present.....poking the bear
Sitting in a ground blind, on a ridge overlooking a small ravine. The frost this morning has turned to dew and has softened the dry crunch of the forest floor. You can smell the damp leaves in the air. The cold can cut through the best layers of the latest thermal wear.
I’ve spent the majority of the last hour fighting off the cold, damp air by keeping myself occupied with a doe in the area.
No I didn’t get a video of it but she came stomping into the area, picking up her two grown fawns, and proceeded to be spooked by every chipmunk, blue jay and squirrel in the area.
She paces incessantly, literally 15 feet away from me, not once smelling me or being spooked by my movements. While it took great willpower not to take a shot, I was hoping she was stomping around because of a buck in the area, so I waited.
She paced back and forth in front of me at least 4 times, the thump of her hooves were deafening so close to me.
I always have these kinds of wildlife moments when I go out here. So close to nature but waiting on a shot for another day. Today was my first day out here this year and what a story already. #deerseason2017
Smashed my thumb at work a day ago. (Went back to work after confirming it wasn't broken) It has swollen to a disproportionate size this afternoon from working around the house. Doc said I should "ice and elevate"Never said what exactly. So it's ice water for my thumb and I'll raise a glass......seems legit.
Man Card Renewal Day:
Guns are sighted in for deer season
ATV gassed up and hauled to the hunting grounds Ground blinds set up
ATV ridden, got a little mud on the tires
Chased a very large coyote (we will cross paths again)
Saw lots of deer sign and spooked lots of deer out of their hiding spots (now I know where they're hiding)
Even though it was one day, I'm glad I took it off. Good for the soul.
