Video by @joelsartore | Band-bellied owls like this one photographed at the Monticello Center in Italy can be found within a large range throughout Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The hunting behavior of these elusive birds are widely unknown, but they are thought to feed mainly on small mammals and large insects. They can grow to be about 19 inches (48 cm) in length and weigh just over one pound (500 grams). These beautiful creatures are named for the horizontal stripes that can be seen across their cream-colored abdomens.
This photo shoot was made possible in collaboration with the @greenteenteam.

Photo by @jonathan_irish / Keep calm and waddle on. I’m t-minus eight days from heading back to the Great White Continent (Antarctica) and it is safe to say that I’m starting to get ice fever. I love the polar regions and can’t get enough of their extreme beauty. Here’s a fun shot of adelie penguins walking along their penguin highway (from the breeding grounds to the water’s edge). One of my favorite things to do while exploring on land in Antarctica is to sit somewhere close to these highways and capture their endless procession back and forth. Follow me @jonathan_irish for more images like this and around the world.

- “If there is a point to being in the canyon, it is not to rush but to linger, suspended in a blue-and-amber haze of in-between-ness, for as long as one possibly can. To float, to drift, savoring the pulse of the river on its odyssey through the canyon, and above all, to postpone the unwelcome and distinctly unpleasant moment when one is forced to reemerge and reenter the world beyond the rim-that is the paramount goal.” —Kevin Fedarko from his book on the Grand Canyon: “The Emerald Mile.” We certainly experienced this description during our 19-day expedition down the Colorado River to explore the Grand Canyon for new rock climbing potential. Hello, world! It’s time for a very snuggly session of #WeeklyFluff, brought to you by Riley (left) and Killer (right) (@morileymoproblems). This dynamic duo of adopted doggies hails from sunny Los Angeles. “Riley follows Killer around. They play, they nap — it’s the cutest and most amazing thing I’ve ever seen,” says their human Alicia. “Killer retained the alpha role as Riley got bigger and still maintains that title to this day.”

“It has been a tradition for generation of mothers to involve their daughters in dance, as a way to make them stronger in body and mind. I have witnessed this first hand with my daughter,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Shannon Hunt. “She has gone from an extremely shy little girl to a confident young woman ready to face the world. I am so grateful to her teachers for this gift. This photo was taken on June 9, 2017 at 7PM during her 2017 dance recital.”

“This evening dance recital is precisely captured at a moment of exquisite choreography, gesture, and light. Magically the lantern draws our attention to the glow in the girls’ tutus, and the engaging drama on stage.” — @natgeo photographers Diane Cook and Len Jenshel (@cookjenshel)
