"Hawaii—America’s only cacao industry and home to some of the most expensive cocoa beans due to limited planting—offers chocolate that has bright, tropical, nutty and berry-like tones; whereas in the Dominican Republic, chocolate displays notes of cinnamon, cloves and tropical red fruits. Northern Peru, considered to be one of the original sources of cacao, produces chocolate with unique aromas of green grass, flowers and damp earth, akin to the vegetative scents found in the woods."

The concept of terroir is well known in the wine world, but its significance can be found in a range of products, as Deepi Ahluwalia explores in this installment of Bone Deep. Visit lifeandthyme.com/stories for more.

"The ice cream parlor was soon accompanied by the drug store soda fountain, by hokey pokey men—vendors pushing handcarts—and eventually, by the ice cream truck. But this only meant that ice cream had gone from a rare and limited commodity to the people’s dessert, so that anyone could enjoy a scoop—the ideal end to the fleeting summer days." — L&T Contributor @michaeltesauro

"I recommend the eggs benedict from Humble Pie. And, of course, there are always the daily market gems like Sironi, famous for their focaccias and Roman-style pizza, and Kumpel & Keule, known for their epic pastured pork burger."⠀

"Although there may be a narrow wall that separates Mexico and the United States, the roots of my family tree run deep, spreading across the soil of both. Sometimes we overlook the beauty of our heritage, the wisdom hidden within those closest to us; we forget to ask the profound or even simple questions about their history." — L&T Contributor @bravotravels
