It’s the autumn equinox this weekend which means it’s officially time to layer a chunky knit with your Literary Emporium t-shirt!🍁 • Are you an autumn enthusiast? I must admit that while I can appreciate the beauty of autumn, it does spark my apprehension of the months ahead as I enter the busiest time of year for the business (don’t get me wrong, I love what I do but the next few months are hard!😅). •
I hope that whether you’re an autumn lover or not, you enjoy the show that nature is about to put on for us 🍂
“You see, bookshops are dreams built of wood and paper. They are time travel and escape and knowledge and power. They are, simply put, the best of places.” - @jenvcampbell, The Bookshop Book
At @bookbarn_international there’s a chalkboard sign, handwritten with this wonderful quote from @jenvcampbell and it couldn’t be more perfect 👌 @bookbarn_international is a haven for book lovers, somewhere to forget about the outside world while you browse the shelves for hidden treasures. I’ve shared more Bookbarn pics over in my stories 😊📚

‘Don't tell me women are not the stuff of heroes, I alone rode over the East Sea's winds for ten thousand leagues. My poetic thoughts ever expand, like a sail between ocean and heaven. I dreamed of your three islands, all gems, all dazzling with moonlight. I grieve to think of the bronze camels, guardians of China, lost in thorns. Ashamed, I have done nothing; not one victory to my name. I simply make my war horse sweat. Grieving over my native land hurts my heart. So tell me; how can I spend these days here? A guest enjoying your spring winds?’ - A feminist poet and revolutionary, Qiu Jin fought for Chinese independence and women’s liberation until her execution in 1911 ❤️ •
I’m on the look out for an English translation of Qiu Jin’s poetry, so if anyone knows of one, please let me know ☺️
“I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am, I am, I am.” •

Confession time...despite being a huge fan of gothic literature, I’ve never read Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca 😱 So when @oursharedshelf chose this as their book selection for September/October, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to finally read it.
The only copy I have is this beautiful 1946 edition which I picked up for £1 a few years ago at @bookbarn_international.
I love the simplicity of the typography and the faded, pale blue cover (swipe to see more pics) but it’s so fragile that I’m scared to break it. Maybe I should get hold of a modern edition for book club purpose... 😏 #anyexcusetobuymorebooks
