Meghan Currie's "The Majesty of being" Yoga intensive in Amsterdam was such a mind blowing experience. I am still digesting it all. I'm not a spiritual person per se, but this was a spiritiual experience for sure. When Meghan guided us through practice, I felt so present - so well integrated body mind. I could totally feel the energy shooting up my spine. I have never, ever felt so strong during practice as I did during these three days! It's hard to explain in words, but lets summarise it as total bliss! πŸ™Œ
Anyway, I made an attempt today to flow through parts of the divine flow she guided us through during the weekend (this is just a snippet from it). πŸ•‰οΈ

I feel relatively strong at the moment, both in #core and them #shoulders Handstand is still very tricky though, I feel I struggle with especially #shoulderflexibility and this makes it very difficult for me to be anything but a 🍌 when #upsidedown πŸ€”πŸ˜

I found a very good daily handstand routine with @gabosaturno on YouTube that I've been doing for the last two days in a row now. It's a really good one as it doesn't require super flexibility or that you have to be super strong. It's only 20 min long, and I feel that is something I can manage on a daily basis. This is a fav #coredrill of mine, moving between #lolasana and Navasana. The yoga blocks helps me to be able to do more "clean" repetitions, ie to keep the feet off the floor. .
Today was my last working day. Now I am off for summer hols for 3 weeks in a row! ✌️ A trip to Amsterdam and @meghancurrieyoga workshop is on the to do list, and also a week of hiking in #Jotunheimen Norway. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for lots and lots of outdoor climbing as well. Fingers crossed this dry summer weather remains! 🀞Happy Friday to you all! ❀️

I recall this drill from previous workshops with Kino. It's a good one - it's interesting to observe how different the two sides are in terms of mobility. I thought my mobility was worse on my right hand side (due to right shoulder being dislocated not long time ago), but all the rehab seems to have helped - so now it turns out that for this particular excercise my left hand side is my weak side! .

Today is my rest day, so this photo was taken while I was doing some gardening in the backyard. πŸ’πŸŒ± The weather in Sweden is outstanding this summer! Endless days of sunshine! 🌻🌞 I'm working this week, but am utilizing the evenings to its maximum. Yesterday evening we went outdoor climbing for example. Next week I'll start my summer hols that will cont for thd next 3 weeks! I haven't had this amount of summer vacation for many many years - do I need to say I am thrilled!!!? βœŒοΈπŸ€—

Have you ever thought of what happens in your body biomechanically during stretching, and why some people are more flexibly β€œby default” than others?
.
Tendons and ligaments are mainly built up by collagen, and there are different types of collagen: type 1 collagen, type 3 collagen (which is more stretchy then the type 1), and elastin (which is connective tissue that is very elastic). The ratios between these types varies between individuals, and a hyperflexible person has a greater proportion of that stretchy collagen.
.
For us that were born with a less optimal allocation of the different types of collagen can of course still improve our flexibility by stretching. Stretching changes the water content in the targeted area, and also changes the material in the targeted tissue. Repetitive stretching will make us more numb to the pain, and I think many of us can relate to this? For me, splits is such a good example – very painful to begin with, but today it feels like the must yummy stretch! When stretching a muscle, an automatic signal is sent to the spinal cord, and the spinal cord then tells the muscle to contract. Over time stretching can downregulate this reflex loop. Long term stretching also adds length to the muscles fibers. So many different actions going on at the same time, the body is just amazing! Honor it! ❀️

I’ve wanted to dedicate a post for Downward Facing Dog for quite some time now. Simply because this is an asana that gets introduced to students early on in their yoga journey, and for most of us yogis, we will spend quite a lot of time in this posture, and therefore alignment becomes extra important. This is a complex pose though, with lots of different actions going on simultaneously - but at the same time it’s such a beneficial posture that it makes sense to introduce early on (my opinion). I cannot think of any other asana that works the Superficial Back Line so efficiently as Down Dog does! .
So a few cues of what to think of:
βœ…Most importantly, finding the straight line from the hands pushing down the floor up to the tailbone striving towards the ceiling is the primary objective! Nothing makes me more happy when teaching a class then a student that is bending their knees in order to find this straight line! βœ…Push the hands actively away from you, wrap the triceps in, broaden the shoulder blades. Make sure there is space between shoulders and ears, relax the neck. Shot tailbone up towards the sky, finding length throughout the spine. βœ…As said above, if hamstrings are too short to be straighten, it’s better to do Down Dog with them knees bend (swipe to pic no 2). If you have a pair of blocks, try DD on blocks as that will make the pose more accessible (swipe to pic no 3). Put up a camera to record your down dog and make sure you got the alignment right.

Approx 27 min into this video he talks about Down Dog in a very pedagogic way. Actually, if you don’t follow him, I suggest you give him a follow πŸ‘‰ @markrobberds His account is an endless source of good drills, anatomy lessons etc etc. Definitely an educational account! .
