I always discuss how cardio should never be your main priority while trying to lose fat and that is mainly because you can undo all the burned calories in a few minutes. In other words, if your diet is not on point no matter how much cardio you do, you won't lose any fat. 🍳

That doesn't mean you shouldn't incorporate cardio into your routine. In fact, I recommend you do so for the cardiovascular health but it shouldn't be your main priority and you shouldn't overdo it. 👍

On the picture I compared six common cardio alternatives and calories burned are based on the 155lb person doing these activities for an hour. ✌️

‼️My advice is to first prioritize nutrition, then strength training because it will change your body composition, and lastly some cardio. 🙌‼️

When it comes to losing fat, the internet is a black hole of information. There’s a lot of good information out there, but there’s a whole lot more bonkershit marketing out there that literally doesn’t make any sense. Everything on the left side of this graph. If you’ve ever tried anything on the left, you probably ended up even more frustrated than before.

Rule #1 in life: “Avoid google for anything when it comes to fitness”

You see, internet marketers have gotten incredibly good at exploiting your insecurities and triggering something in you to buy their products. That’s no bueno..

You see, the truth about fat loss is incredibly boring and you can’t really market that..

It’s like, eat less, strength train, eat lots of fruits and veggies, sleep enough, and be incredibly patient. Nobody wants to hear that…

BUT it’s the TRUTH!!! And I think we need to actually embrace the fact that it’s going to take a long and it’s going to be a tough thing to do. It makes you a stronger person. It makes you a stronger human being.

Yes, portion sizes matter.

You guys probably all already know that you should be in a caloric deficit when losing fat and in a surplus when building muscle is your goal.

Knowing that, the second realization you should have is 'oh damn, portion sizes are everything'.

Yup, portion sizes are everything.
-
You see, these meals consist out of the same ingredients, just in different quantities. When losing fat you want to decrease caloric value whilst not really sacrificing meal volume. That's why you want to be adding more vegetables to this meal.

When building muscle, you want to up the carbs in this meal that's why you triple up on the carb source in this meal and decrease the amount of veggies.

😉So, I heard you guys like green foods, vegetables. If not… LEARN TO EAT THEM. Seriously, when somebody tells me “I don’t like vegetables…” I legitimately think.by myself. Dude, I don’t like brushing my teeth and showering either. BUT IT’S NECESSARY!!!💪

Yes, eating vegetables is necessary. Why you ask? Because of vitamins and minerals. “But can’t I just take a multivitamin?...” No. Don’t be a muggle and eat your damn vegetables.

Oh, and by the way…. If you’re trying to lose fat these can add a LOT of volume to your meals or can act as a legit “calorie free” snack. Yes, I’m saying you can endless cucumber all day long. It takes almost more energy to digest this food than it actually gives you. Yes, that’s true.

💥PRE AND POST WORKOUT NUTRITION💥

🐣What should you eat before and after your workout? Is the anabolic window real? Is there a magic food that you should eat before and after your workout?! Haha nope, no anabolic window, no magic food. Just eat some food. Let’s break down the specifics of what you want to be eating pre and post training!!🤔

✌️Pre workout: Protein and carbs are important pre workout, you want to be eating these but please, make sure the form of the foods you’re eating are easily digestible because you don’t want to have lots of food sitting in your stomach when you’re training. We’ve all been there, almost throwing up in the gym because you just ate. Make sure you eat like 1-3 hours before so you give your body time to absorb all of the food. If you’re not able to eat 1-3 hours before and thus you’re training fasted, get yourself some BCAA’s.

🔥Post workout. There’s a lot of debate about this. Are carbs necessary or not? Technically they’re not really that necessary but if you really want to optimize everything you might want to add at least 30ish grams of carbs after your workout. If you’re just training for general fat loss or muscle gain, just getting 25 grams of protein will do. But again, how hard is it to eat 30 grams of carbs after your workout? Not really right? And about the anabolic window.. That’s a myth. Just make sure you eat your post workout meal as soon as you can. You’re good

I can't stress it enough. Learning how to manipulate your recipes to fit your fitness goal is the holy grail of nutrition!

You simply need a lot more calories when you're in a solid muscle building phase as opposed to when losing fat. It's a fact!!
-
Knowing that, you want to learn how to manipulate your recipes for your goals! I do think these greek yogurt parfait recipes are an awesome example of manipulating your recipe!

They are basically the same, you just add cereal to the muscle gain one to add a lot of calories! Especially carbs. Which is awesome when building muscle!

As you probably already know I’m not a big fan of telling you exactly what to. That’s something I want you to figure out yourself. Because I don’t know what you like to eat and I don’t want to tell you exactly what to eat. I can give you ideas, but it’s up to you to really figure out what you like and don’t like.

These ideas are very easily customizable towards your daily calorie and macronutrient needs. Need more carbs? Eat more carbs!! Need more protein? Eat more protein!! Like having more fats in your breakfast? Add a fat source!! Don’t overcomplicate this stuff!

Make these meal ideas fit in your daily needs and bon appetit!!

Oh and also, you don't need to eat breakfast if you don't want to. Intermittent fasting is a GREAT way to make fat loss and sticking to your deficit a lot easier!!! Make sure to check out my recent post on IF too ✌️
