We’re naturally stoked with some of the reviews we’ve been getting for our natural wine, Mica Hill Chardonnay... 95 points – Mike Bennie (Winefront.com.au)
Serious feeling wine that combines fresh fruit, plenty of ‘chardonnay character’ with serious savouriness, textural elements, incredible length. There’s so much going on here. A cavalcade of nuttiness, amontillado notes, green apple, flint and slate, the perfume ably matching the palate. Lingers long with honey-glazed nuts and a star burst of chalky-grapefruity tang. Tight as too! Super stuff.
Digging out the last red fermenter for the 2018 vintage. This calls for Friday celebration!
Delivering the Savvy blanc goods!
94 points – Campbell Mattinson (Winefront)
Sauvignon blanc vines planted in 1981. Dry grown. Fermented wild on skins in concrete vats. Chardonnay lees added. Matured in 2800 litre casks.
A stylish, textural white wine. Peppery and thistle-like but not overtly so; it has power but it also has subtlety. Wood smoke, gravel and passionfruit flavours make a seamless run. Excellent.
Watching that weather come in over our Hazel’s vineyard.

One of those magic small town moments where we got to chat with Margaret River royalty!
David and Sandy Hohnen from McHenry Hohnen vineyards and Farmhouse meats.
It's fair to say the Hohnen family are some of the most significant early pioneers of the Margaret River wine industry. David is widely regarded as helping put Margaret River on the world wine map.
His Cape Mentelle Cabernet from 1982 and again in 1983 won Australia's most prestigious wine award - The Jimmy Watson Trophy. Those two consecutive wins turned the spotlight on Margaret River as one of the worlds great Cabernet producing regions. He also went on to start the iconic Cloudy Bay in NZ.
The family subsequently sold Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay to Louis Vouitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH), and they are now back to grass roots with a small winery and David's beloved livestock farming.
You'd think he'd be talking about the wines but he's passionately telling us about burger patties. And how the local brewery, tavern and restaurants are all using his farmed meets to sell genuine local produce.
Thanks for making our visit extra special today Sandy and David!
