Photo by @magnuswennman While working on the story on sleep I had the privilege to visit U.S.S Paul Hamilton in San Diego. Perhaps one of the most important shift work positions is with the Navy. Here we see three sailors wearing light therapy glasses. The sailors wear these glasses for a short time after waking. Nita Shattuck of the Naval Postgraduate school in Monterey is testing the devices to see if they can reset sailors internal clocks, synchronizing them with work shifts rather than the sun cycle.

The North Cascades are a rugged wilderness of thick old growth forests, rock, and ice with over 300 active glaciers. There are very few roads that penetrate the North Cascades, but one of the few that does is the North Cascades Highway, which is closed in winter because of the deep snowfall and avalanche hazard along the highway. Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPcircles
This weekend, we’re seeing circles. Take your cue from this featured photo by Kristina Makeeva (@hobopeeba), and read on for some tips to get started:
Focus on round forms in nature. Point your lens toward a bubble in the water, a piece of fruit or even the moon.
Find circles at home. Set the table for dinner and take a photo of the plates from above, or capture how the light shines in through a circular window.
Bring friends and family into the frame. Make a video of hula-hooping in the park, or of a friend holding up a freshly baked pie.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPcircles hashtag only to photos and videos shared over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video shared over the weekend is eligible to be featured next week.
