The NDTC regrets the passing of alum Jihan Palmer who died following a brief battle with cancer. Jihan is rememebered as a dancer of exceptional talent who performed with grace, passion, depth of interpretation and technical prowess. During her years with the Company she performed in several signature works including Prof. Rex Nettleford's "The Crossing", "The King Must Die", "Gerrehbenta" and "Kumina". She is especially remembered for her dramatic solo performance of Arsenio Andrade's "A Prayer" and her roles in "Dimensions" and "Labess". We wish to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jihan Palmer in their time of bereavement. She will be sorely missed.
"Sometimes to change a situation you are in requires you to take a giant leap. But, you won't be able to fly unless you are willing to transform." Suzy Kassem
We are all equal in the fact that we are all different. We are all the same in the fact that we will never be the same. We are united by the reality that all colours and all cultures are distinct and individual. We are harmonious in the reality that we are all held to this earth by the same gravity.
THE CUBAN CONNECTION
Dance demonstrates that the arts transcends geography, race, religion and political persuasions. The NDTC has certainly been part of that reality ever since its inception in 1962, the year of Jamaica's independence.
